- Steep knows how to keep you busy, how to show you just enough that you’ll want to go take a look yourself. It knows to give you lots of multiplayer grouping activities, exhaustive analysis tools, fancy replay options, friends challenges, leaderboards, ghosts, a G-force meter, sassy avatars, unlockable sasquatch costumes, backpack stickers, progression tracks, and even quests for each peak.
Tom Chick · Feb 28, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Steep is a game that's never really sure what it is, and its vagueness and lack of meaningful rewards causes it to suffer in any comparisons to the likes of SSX. But there's a quiet thrill to exploring the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc, and snowed-in Alpine villages.
Leif Johnson · Dec 16, 2016 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Steep is a great accomplishment, but it feels like it was rushed. I expected this game to be a 2017 title, and having it now, faults and all, makes me wish they'd have held off on releasing this game until it received a bit more polish and gameplay refinements. In its current state, it's a frustrating game to play with occasional flashes of brilliance.
Matt Mirkovich · Dec 14, 2016 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Steep is a great game marred by odd design decisions that drag it down a few notches. With some tweaks and band-aids this could easily be one of the better games of 2016, but the nagging issues found here are enough to make me not want to play it for more than an hour or so at a time. That said, with so many other great titles hitting this time of year Steep is likely to be forgotten, but if they manage to solve its issues, and it gets a sort of fresh launch early next year, definitely keep your eyes out for it.
Ken McKown · Dec 14, 2016 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Steep delivers great fun for winter sports game fans, although it can be a little difficult to find amongst a huge map and confusing tutorial/interface. What Ubisoft has tried to accomplish is mostly successful, and fans of winter sports games will find a lot that they recognize and a lot that improves on the genre in this mountain range.
Rosh Kelly · Dec 12, 2016 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Too many extreme-sports video games gate the fun of exploring what they offer behind endless challenges, forcing players to retry over and over until they get bored and move on. Steep sets itself apart by never holding players back and never slowing down. Across hours spent with the game, I was free to throw myself down the mountain as many times and in as many ways as I wanted. As it turns out, that made for a damn good time.
Whitney Reynolds · Dec 12, 2016 Reviewed on PC, PS4, XB1Read full review - Steep looks stunning and offers plenty to do and see, but unfortunately gets repetitive too quickly.
Sam Loveridge · Dec 11, 2016 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Despite coming up short in a few areas Steep ends up a very enjoyable experience overall. Even as I type these closing comments I’m thinking about the game and where my next line will take me. With huge and beautiful summits to explore, varied locations and events and the best snowboard and ski free riding any game has offered yet, Steep is a welcomed and satisfying extreme sports experience.
Rory Wood · Dec 10, 2016 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Steep’s world is undeniably beautiful, from the endless mountain vistas to the way your rider leaves a trail in the crunchy snow. I wanted to love it, and there aren’t enough games like it on PC, but the problems with how it plays are just too fundamental for me to forgive them.
Andy Kelly · Dec 09, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - This kind of exalted occurrence can also be found throughout the game in its daring, life-or-death sequences and even the simplicity of earning co-op XP by easily pairing up with up to three real-life friends or strangers and just exploring the world or doing tricks within proximity of each other. I honestly wasn't expecting to find such a harmony with Steep's wide world, but it's definitely there.
