- SteamWorld Dig can proudly sit amongst those top-tier eShop titles that can describe themselves as a ‘must-play’. There is a small desert’s worth of charm packed into this game, with a beautifully high level of polish and sheen just oozing from its very core. We’d love to have more reasons to play the game after its relatively short campaign and, considering this game is a short few years old now, having a UK launch price higher than when it released on previous Nintendo systems seems slightly off, but the gameplay alone will show you that this one is a real winner. If you’re looking to delve into the SteamWorld universe for the first time, this would be a great place to start.
Ryan Craddock · Feb 01, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - My main problem with SteamWorld Dig is that, apart from the puzzle rooms, there’s not a lot of meat on these bones. Second, I recently played (and perhaps you did too) SteamWorld Dig 2, a game that blows its predecessor out of the water in every possible respect. However, it’s interesting to go back to the original after playing its sequel, because you can see how the core gameplay evolved. I like SteamWorld Dig; I just like SteamWorld Dig 2 more and that fact, maybe unfairly, winds up hurting the former. It’s definitely worth playing, though, on whatever system you have that it runs on.
Zachary Miller · Jan 31, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Steamworld Dig is a simple game that capitalizes on a simple concept and uses it to its advantage. It handles progress so well, and it really kept me coming back for more. It is one of those games you can boot up for 15 minutes or binge play for an hour. It is fun either way. If somehow you haven’t played this game yet and you have an Xbox One, this is a must have. I highly suggest it.
Drew Leachman · Jun 10, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - While it will only take you a few hours to beat SteamWorld Dig, it's a game that makes every moment count. There is no filler, only excellent content to be experienced. Whether it is a player's first or sixth time playing through SteamWorld Dig, they are in for an absolute treat. This is one platform game that should not be missed.
Tyler Treese · Jun 08, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - SteamWorld dig is a game that is a mining experience that enhances the types of flash mining games we used to play with a big enough scope of gameplay that makes it addictive and highly enjoyable, while still giving you a game that has lots of “meat” and no filler! The upgrades and rewards scale with the progress that you make as you play through the game, offering a challenging and rewarding gameplay experience that punishes you accordingly, because let’s be honest, losing half of your money can be painful!
Rutledge Daugette · Mar 25, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - SteamWorld Dig on the PS Vita and PS4 is a wonderful achievement; great game play, beautiful to look at and with a sense of humor. Bringing it to the Sony stables was a great move on the part of the developers, and one that will hopefully prove fruitful for them.
John Whitehouse · Mar 21, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - SteamWorld Dig is an amazing achievement, a rewarding and addictive adventure built around a mechanic that would be unbearably repetitive and monotonous in practically any other game. The steady amount of exciting abilities and open-ended exploration give players incentive to dig deeper and deeper, with whole new worlds appearing from the soil. The controls are fluid and accessible, always making navigation around the depths of Tumbleton easy and frustration-free.
Alex Carlson · Mar 19, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - SteamWorld Dig is a very good game. It takes most of the fun to be found in other mining games such as Terraria and adds some elements of traditional platformer and exploration games. ...It remains one of the best 3DS titles, and now takes its place among PlayStation’s best too. It might not be an extremely lengthy affair, but when it comes to art direction, well paced gameplay, and a brilliant sense of exploration, SteamWorld remains king.
Blair Inglis · Mar 18, 2014 Reviewed onRead full review - There are a lot of good things happening in SteamWorld Dig that make the game easy to enjoy. It looks and sounds great. The platforming aspects are handled really well, and there’s a lot of fun to be had in mining resources in exchange for upgrades. The characters are cute and charming, and the dangers you face are challenging but never too frustrating. The game is also cross-buy with the PS4.
Brad Gruetzmacher · Mar 18, 2014 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - It took me about four hours to complete SteamWorld Dig, but those four hours flew before I even noticed. Needless to say, Image & Form has created one of the most addictive titles I have played in quite some time, and digging to the bottom of the world and exploring large underground caves for treasure and upgrades never once got monotonous.
