  • Despite this being a disappointing re-release of beloved classics, I still had an enjoyable trip down memory lane playing the single-player content. That said, the minimal improvements aren’t enough to recommend at the current price.

  • As a big Star Wars fan, I couldn’t wait to experience the praises of the original Star Wars Battlefronts, but as a gamer, I am let down by a mediocre effort made by Aspyr. Certainly the games have its charms in setting its missions based on epic moments from the Star Wars Saga, looking aesthetically great, and being able to play as fan favorite Jedi. However, these wonderful things are quickly bogged down by a myriad of performance issues, outdated shooter gameplay and overall jank.

  • Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection is ultimately just disappointing. It's unclear whether it wants to be a remaster or a collection that preserves two major games from Star Wars' history, but in both instances, it fails. This is neither an accurate representation of what Battlefront and Battlefront 2 were, nor does it make enough adjustments to bring two decades-old games into the modern era. The result is a collection that's not really fun to play, and well worth skipping.

  • As it stands now; the collection comes across more as a work in progress that does show promise and hopefully will be given the attention and care that it needs to give fans the updated yet retro Star Wars experience they desire.

  • Still, Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection isn’t beyond redemption (one saving grace being that the game wasn’t steeped in the microtransaction controversy that accompanied the 2015 Star Wars: Battlefront release), and I think Aspyr realizes it, having announced a forthcoming patch to be delivered soon. This comes at a crucial moment for Aspyr, which lost out on the Knights of the Old Republic remake for Windows and PlayStation 5, and its parent company, Embracer, moving the project over to another studio. Aspyr, in turn, is under the gun to make Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection right, get the bug count down, and deliver the experience that was promised to an eager world of Star Wars fans. It wouldn’t be unheard of for a series of patches to make everything as it should be, but the uncomfortable question remains as to why this went out the door in the condition it was in the first place.

  • While the campaigns are nostalgic and fun to revisit, the Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection is largely disappointing. The multiplayer mess feels inexcusable, robbing players of the basic fundamentals of a Star Wars multiplayer game. Not being able to finish matches due to crashes, struggling to even get into a game, and a lack of servers make this one of the worst multiplayer experiences I’ve had for some time.

  • Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection is a reminder of how great these games were at the time they released, but it ultimately fails to do anything better for the players than the original releases did. As much as it breaks my heart, I find it hard to recommend this game to anyone in its current state.

  • Aspyr has done a serviceable, even admirable job with its porting of Star Wars titles up to this point, but the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection represents a monumental misstep and a much-deserved blemish on its reputation. These are two beloved games representing some of the very best experiences the Star Wars IP has ever offered. To release these remasters in this state is deeply concerning. Our only solace is the fact that, eventually, most of the problems should be fixable.

  • On Xbox, there was always going to be some serious debate about whether fans should consider checking out the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection. If you’re not in it for online play, and only want to participate in solo play and local multiplayer (or you simply want the original experience), we would argue the affordably priced backward compatibility versions are still more than enough. If you are really eager to relive the online battles of yesteryear on an even bigger scale though, the Classic Collection is the (only) way, so hopefully Apsyr can overcome these launch issues.

  • STAR WARS: Battlefront Classic Collection is an echo of the past with some of the benefits of being in the modern era. IT would have been nice to have some extra content like behind-the-scenes footage or concept art as part of the larger collection, but by no means was it necessary. It would have also been nice to see some polished elements like textures or animations, but that wouldn't preserve the games as they were. Preservation really is the name of the game here, and that isn’t a bad thing at all. It is just easy to see that there is a bit of a struggle trying to jump right back into these titles with their less polished controls and visuals. This package isn’t for everyone, but it is available to everyone, and that's what really matters because these games are fun, especially with their online components up and running.
