- Outside of a perfunctory multiplayer mode that’s cute so long as you have friends nearby with a 3DS (there’s no online play) , Star Fox 64 3D is a fine diversion, but at its full price of $39.99, it isn’t a must buy. Those looking for a blast from the past full of all the barrel rolls and Andross they loved 14 (!) years ago will have a good time for as long as it lasts, and this remains the best game in the Star Fox franchise.
Henry Gilbert · Jun 24, 2012 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Graphically, Star Fox 64 3D is a spectacle. With the addition of the 3D effect, the game becomes far more engaging than ever before. Lava spews towards the screen, enemies soar overhead and the added visual depth that this provides allows Nintendo to breath new life into a game that you’ll soon forget is fourteen years old.
Alex Seedhouse · Oct 19, 2011 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Overall, I'd say Star Fox 64 3D is a fantastic remake of the original game- it brings back all the fun of the classic Nintendo 64 title, gives it a shiny makeover and makes good use of the Nintendo 3DS. Despite the quirks of the small screen size and the gyro controls, I'd definitely recommend it, especially if you missed out on Star Fox 64 the first time around.
Paul Goodman · Sep 30, 2011 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - But those are the kinds of features that get added to games when the developers are stuck making a straight remake instead of adding the meaningful, substantial additions and upgrades that could have made Star Fox 64 3D a more robust package. The desire for a straight nostalgic recreation of the original game forbids the addition of the very features that would have made the game truly modern.
Matt Kessler · Sep 16, 2011 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Star Fox 64 3D is a great little package, more than worthy of a purchase for fans of the genre. It lacks the scale and scope of Nintendo's other big N64 remake, but it's arguably a more compelling experience for shmup junkies like myself. The game is constant action with no filler; just constant dog fighting and high-flying arial maneuvers, with a bit of jaw-flapping, Muppet-y fun layered on top.
Jonathan Holmes · Sep 09, 2011 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - As it fades, it’s replaced by the realisation that, in many ways, the original was the playable prototype and this is the true final product....
Edge Staff · Sep 09, 2011 Reviewed on 3DS - Lots of unlocks for extra features, and some of the best level design ever seen makes this game infinitely replayable. A perfect score is tarnished here by a lackluster multiplayer option.
Sean Engemann · Sep 09, 2011 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - This is the perfect chance to get acquainted with StarFox if you've missed out after all these years, but this classic game from the 90's is merely a good game today.
Game Trailers · Sep 09, 2011 Reviewed on 3DS - It's still a pleasure to discover (or rediscover) the varied regions of the Lylat system with this colorful cast of characters. For some, this adventure may feel a little too familiar, and it won't hold any surprises for those who have overthrown Andross in the past. And the addition of a "gyro controls" option that lets you steer the ship by tilting the 3DS adds little to the experience; it fails to offer the responsiveness of the traditional controls, and its presence is nothing more than a curiosity.
Carolyn Petit · Sep 08, 2011 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Star Fox 64 is still a great video game, and the 3DS hardware offers improvements and useless additions equally. I enjoyed the updated visuals and 3D effects, but I wanted to turn off the gyro controls the second I used them. Once it was off, however, I found myself loving every second of the game like it was 1997 all over again.
