- Splasher‘s brilliance is clear to see, and it is not hard to come to understand why it has become so popular with speedrunners – especially thanks to the chance to switch to Time Attack mode on the fly, challenging you to complete each level as fast as possible in competing in the online leaderboards. The Nintendo Switch may already be home to a fair few platformers, but Splasher will long linger in your memory for all the right reasons.
Alex Seedhouse · Jan 09, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - All told Splasher is a smartly designed, tight platformer that offers up hours of replay value on top of the creative ideas it delivers. It takes the Super Meat Boy template and builds upon it in a notable way, creating an experience that feels just the right amount of familiar and fresh. Though there isn’t a whole lot to write home about when it comes to the presentation, the core gameplay is more than enough to keep you engaged.
Mitch Vogel · Nov 07, 2017 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - In the world we live in now where more and more platformers are popping up all the time, it's so nice to play through such a refreshing (and dare I say "fluid") adventure. Splasher's interesting paint cannon mechanic paired with the excellent level design will have you bouncing through each level feeling like a boss from start to finish. If you like a great challenge, charming animations and a new take on an old genre, look no further.
Perry Burkum · Oct 31, 2017 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - All in all, Splasher manages to take one of the oldest gaming genres and deliver something new. Nothing about its novel mechanics come off as bizarre or out of place; it weaves mechanics and level design in such a way that it positively innovates. Kudos to the folks over at Splashteam for making a platformer that doesn’t rehash the same old experience.
Mario Brash · Sep 28, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - For a first title, Splashteam has shown that they are more than capable of bringing some original ideas to one of gaming’s oldest genres. The action-packed levels offer plenty of surprises to keep players on their toes, even if a few fall flat, and the brightly colored presentation further benefits the unique title.
Sam Spyrison · Feb 11, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - There needs to be solid visuals, great audio, and tight controls, and it needs to be seamless and free of major glitches. Check, check, check; it’s safe to say that Splasher ticks all the right boxes in all the right places. It has the potential to be the next big thing in platforming – I urge you, if you’re a fan of the genre, then you must give Splasher a try. I just hope the masses enjoy it as much as I did.
Daniel Batoff · Feb 10, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Splasher is a platformer that wears its influences on its sleeve from a story taken straight from Oddworld and gameplay that can almost match Rayman. The game offers a nicely refined platforming experience that really nails the fast and fluid style, the game is a great showcase of how these games should play and the only praise this game needs is that I would like to see a sequel that expands on these ideas.
Reece Heyworth · Nov 06, 2017 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Platformers are hardly a new thing, but in Splasher's case the introduction of small, interesting elements make it truly shine out from the crowd. It may be lacking in some areas and might not offer up a lot of replayability once you've fully completed it. But you're going to enjoy the ride just the same, and for the money it's well worth it.
Emily Sowden · Nov 06, 2017 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Splasher is a creative, fun, and competent 2D platformer. It takes a gimmick and runs with it as far as it possibly can in the best way possible. It keeps the player interested and the difficulty curve fair by slowly feeding new tools to change the environment and gameplay, ensuring the game stays fresh towards the end. It is, however, on the short end, and a special world with extremely challenging stages at the end of the game would not have hurt it at all. That said, when the only complaint is that the player is left wishing for more, even after a filling meal, it is a great testament to how good and solid Splasher truly is.
André Eriksson · Oct 02, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Splasher is tough but satisfying, and you’ll be flying through the levels in no time. It’s a relatively easy game to play, but difficult to master, and this is what gives Splasher its charm. Getting around InkCorp Hall can be a pain, and with certain levels only unlockable when you collect a certain amount of Splashers, it can take a while to reach the harder sections of the game. Still, if you’re up for a challenge, Splasher is right there for you to give it a go.
