- Soul Hackers 2’s only merit is that it streamlines all the mechanics that made the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei series so popular among JRPG fans to make them more accessible for newcomers. It’s certainly one way to attract more people to these huge franchises, but that a rather unfortunate one.
Cosmin Vasile · Jan 14, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Soul Hackers 2 is a game that compares unfavorably to the recently released SMT V which I consider one of the series best. However, even when viewed on its own merits and nothing else, it falls far short of excellence due to its poor pacing, simplistic combat and endlessly dull dungeon crawling.
Jae Lee · Sep 20, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - It stands out on its own amongst the recent Shin Megami Tensei releases, carving a name for itself as a pretty great JRPG title on the current generation of consoles.
Olivia Harris · Sep 07, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Soul Hackers 2 was the sequel I never imagined, and it’s also not the direct sequel I would have anticipated. It is, ironically, spiritual, and it sits proudly in the court of Shin Megami Tensei. Not as a game to be judged, but as one of the presiding judges itself.
Oliver Shellding · Sep 05, 2022 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Overall, Soul Hackers 2 is a decent game that mostly appeals to fans of the Soul Hackers JRPG series. Though it had some aspects lacking such as story, map exploration, and more, its combat and way of getting stronger in the game are very interesting.
Conrad Huang · Aug 30, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Soul Hackers 2 is a solid game. It’s not the most impressive technically and you can see the budget constraints, but it tells a fascinating story with a style few can match.
Jesse Norris · Aug 25, 2022 Reviewed on PC, Series X|SRead full review - The music and art direction are, as typical for Atlus games, stellar, but behind that style, there, unfortunately, isn't as much substance as one might hope that is worth the time invested.
Rollin Bishop · Aug 25, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - The story is interesting, the characters are likeable, and the voice acting is good. If you enjoy the core game loop for the SMT games, you are getting exactly that. Just don’t expect a huge new experience with a lot of new gameplay concepts.
Jason McMaster · Aug 24, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Soul Hackers 2 is ambitious and it presents a series of thoughtful questions, but it’s told through the vehicle of endless crawls through dungeons with lacklustre designs that aren’t exactly a joy to explore.
Jenny Zheng · Aug 24, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Soul Hackers 2 may be deeply flawed and perhaps even rushed, but it’s also one of the most ambitious RPGs of 2022. The parts are there for something truly great. Atlus just needs to give it the love and care it deserves.
