- Soul Axiom requires a very specific type of gamer to enjoy what it has to offer. This gamer needs to enjoy first person games, enjoy puzzles, and be able to see past the dated visuals. Oh, and this gamer needs to have incredible patience, because Soul Axiom drags on, and on, and on. I won’t say Soul Axiom is a terrible game, but I honestly believe if developers focused on creating a shorter game, with more effort put into the games pacing, graphics and sound, the overall experience would have been far more enjoyable.
Alex Everatt · Oct 12, 2016 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - Soul Axiom initially holds promise, but design flaws, a convoluted narrative, and constant guesswork make the puzzles feel arbitrary rather than rewarding.
Daniel R. Miller · Jul 03, 2016 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - While I wasn’t totally sold on the game, I didn’t hate it either. The beginning parts were really some great looks and moments in the game that were surreal and very interesting, but getting into the main crux of the game, the puzzles, was where it started to falter. I wanted more of the story, but wasn’t willing to scour the world to find all the collectibles which seemed to be the best way to figure out what was really happening.
Drew Leachman · Jun 22, 2016 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Soul Axiom is an incredibly uneven game that feels disjointed and unpolished. Moments of beauty in its futuristic overworld are only temporary, as half of the game looks completely out of place. It’s incredibly disappointing that the game isn’t able to come together since some of the puzzles are delightful to figure out.
Tyler Treese · Jun 09, 2016 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Master Reboot had heart, but it was overly ambitious and couldn't back up its ideas. I do believe Soul Axiom also has that spirit and ambition, but Wales Interactive has learned nothing from Master Reboot's failures. Soul Axiom should be better than Master Reboot, but it's not. It's glitchy, bad or broken puzzles outnumber the few fantastic ones, it has a strange chunk of padding, the story is forgettable, and the cutscenes are terrible. This is not a game I'd suggest dumping into your memories.
Samuel Guglielmo · Jun 07, 2016 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Soul Axiom nearly gets by on intrigue. For the first two hours, however inconsistent, I was curious to explore the varied environments and play around with the shallow puzzles. But once I realized there wasn’t much to it beyond poking, prodding and running back and forth until I heard a ding that signaled I’d done something right, no change in scenery could save Soul Axiom from boredom or frustration.
James Davenport · Mar 08, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Simplistic and often jarring its intended design may seem, Soul Axiom is a game that requires, as much cunningly desires, the player’s warranted need to look beyond the surface that’s initially presented. Whether that be in its puzzle design or the ample conflict of environments, Wales Interactive do just enough with the overarching themes of simulation and replication to make its superficial locales feel that extra bit suspicious.
Jordan Helm · Feb 29, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Overall, Soul Axiom is a painful experience. I love the plot premise; the idea of a digital, man-made afterlife and how that affects society is a cool idea. I just wish Wales Interactive explored it in a bit more detail, instead of giving us the half-baked story, sparse and boring environments, and easy, repetitive puzzles that it did.
Joe Parlock · Feb 28, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Soul Axiom has some strong points to make it potentially enticing for eShop enthusiasts; it works hard to deliver an interesting narrative, there are plenty of hours of play, and it's atmospheric and intriguing at times. There are downsides though, with performance and puzzle design often middling and sometimes poor, which both drag the experience back somewhat. Perhaps worth a punt - at a budget price - for fans of first-person puzzles, but Soul Axiom sadly doesn't deliver to its full potential.
Thomas Whitehead · Dec 23, 2016 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - The confusing PR description of the game, which is nothing like the experience you actually get, is testament to that muddled framework. This is well worth a go, but it is not a polished gem by any stretch of the imagination.
