  Like any good DLC pack though, this game also has some tweaks and fixes for the core game. Sure it was great, but it wasn’t perfect. Some mechanics have been altered and a few of the bosses have been tweaked. This really feels like the definitive version of the game. For those that already own it, the $5 for the DLC is a no-brainer.

  Overall, Sonic Mania Plus adds even more features to an already awesome game! I had a lot of fun playing this game and would highly recommend it to anyone, but especially to fans of the older Sonic titles.

  Two new characters to play. Encore mode is fantastic. The remixed levels are great. A new stage and a new boss fight. Competition Mode supports four players. Sonic Mania Plus is an excellent addition to an already fine game and easily the best Sonic game in years.

  Sonic Mania Plus adds a lot of new content is specifically targeted for fans of Sonic Mania. New characters, modes, and changes to the core game all combine for a new adventure. Whether you own a copy of Sonic Mania or have yet to play it, Sonic Mania Plus delivers more of the same great gameplay the original game provided.

  Sonic Mania Plus did the impossible and made what was already the best new 2D Sonic since the Sega CD even better. There is only one word to describe Sonic Mania Plus and that is rad. I am not sure what Christian Whitehead and the others behind the game have in store for the future, but I hope it leads to more stellar '90s-style platformers like we see here with Mania Plus.

  Sonic Mania Plus is an essential upgrade if you already own and enjoy the original version of the game. Newcomers should also give this updated offering a look, as it captures what made classic Sonic uniquely appealing, while fixing some of the base game’s shortcomings. Sonic Mania Plus still has a few lingering issues, but, overall, this heartfelt hedgehog homage has been honed to the next level.

  If the Sonic Mania series just kept releasing new content in this form several more times before coming out with a true sequel, I would definitely not complain. Sonic Mania Plus cranks the game up to eleven with its new content and it is a must-play for fans of the original Sonic the Hedgehog 2D platformers.

  At $4.99, even if you’ve already had your fill of the blue blur on your Switch, it seems like a no-brainer to pick this DLC up. And, if you’ve yet to play Sonic Mania; Sonic Mania Plus offers yet another essential addition to your physical game collection. It might not be an entirely new game, but Sonic Mania Plus manages to feel just as fresh as the original Sonic Mania did a little over a year ago.

  Sonic Mania was a true return to form for the mascot, in his 2D 'Classic' guise at least, and celebrated the glory days of the original games while also enhancing their qualities and taking on new ideas. From new areas, imaginative second acts and some delightful boss encounters, the development team poured a lot of passion and talent into the project.

  While I do have a couple nitpicks, they aren’t anything super intrusive and didn’t take much away from the experience for me. Encore mode and new characters make the game feel just as fresh and exciting as it did at launch last year. If you haven’t tried Sonic Mania yet, now is a better time than ever to jump in — whether you opt to pick up Sonic Mania Plus and all the extra things it brings, or just download the Encore DLC and free updates.
