- I like one level in Sonic: Lost World. In Desert Ruin, Zone 2, Sonic must run down a hexagonal tree because reasons. The gravity shift creates a sense of continuous momentum—letting Sonic bash through lines of bees, before quickly dodging through hives and across log sections. It's a one off. Everywhere else, Sonic's flow is continuously broken. It's difficult to know whether the game values speed—supposedly Sonic's raison d'être—or methodical exploration. The balance is trapped in the middle, rendering both options frustrating.
Phil Savage · Nov 20, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Honestly, I just don’t understand Sonic Lost World. After Sonic 4: Episodes 1 and 2, Sonic Colors, and Sonic Generations, it seemed like Sega finally understood what made Sonic games fun: the speed, the flow, the feeling of being the fastest thing alive. But everything in Sonic Lost World stops this flow.
Angelo M. D'Argenio · Oct 30, 2013 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - Sonic’s first foray into the next generation of gaming is mostly a memorable experience. While the overall length and difficulty spike in later levels might deter some people from picking it up, others will enjoy the lighthearted story, eye pleasing visuals, variety of things to do and flexible controls. It may be a departure from previous titles, but Sonic Lost World is an enjoyable new take on the Speedster.
Kyle Solmonson · Oct 30, 2013 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - Despite an interesting new direction for the ‘90s mascot, Sonic: Lost Worlds barely scratches its potential, and reuses boss battles to an uncomfortable degree. Sadly, this isn't where it all falls into place, but a few payoff moments made the experience feel worth it.
Jose Otero · Oct 22, 2013 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Sega put a heavy emphasis on exploration, and while gamers will still wind around loops and fly off jump pads, the majority of the levels come in "U" and cylinder shapes filled with secret items like extra lives and Red Star Rings
Chris Buffa · Oct 21, 2013 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - The jubilant vibrancy of Sonic Lost World‘s opening fanfare is perhaps representative of the experience. A mirthful and upbeat adventure for SEGA’s star that at its climactic best easily rubs shoulders with the greatest that the series has ever had to offer, yet one that still remains troubled by issues that chip away at an otherwise delightful assault on the senses.
Alex Seedhouse · Oct 18, 2013 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - Sonic Lost World clumsily tears all the wrong pages out of the Super Mario Galaxy playbook, and in so doing, loses the breathless speed and fluidity that makes a Sonic game a Sonic game. Graphically it may talk the talk, but the controls and level design just can’t walk the walk, much less run it.
Vince Ingenito · Oct 18, 2013 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - Its gameplay variety is appreciated up to a point, but Sonic: Lost World misses the mark more often than it succeeds, as frustrating level design and unimaginative boss encounters are enough to overshadow its fleeting moments of brilliance.
Danny Cowan · Oct 18, 2013 Reviewed on Wii U - Sonic Lost World can wildly swing from brilliant to horrific at the drop of a hat, but when one steps back and takes a look at the whole production, one sees far more to love than hate. Certainly, the nastier elements prevent it from being the truly great installment it could have been, but the experience is good enough to where I would desperately entreat Sonic Team to keep doing what's been started here.
Jim Sterling · Oct 18, 2013 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - ...unfortunately for Sonic, people who have grown up with Nintendo hardware have come to expect much better than this.
