  • A sniper-centric FPS is certainly an interesting concept on paper, but Ghost Warrior fails miserably to capitalise on its potential. A frightening lack of originality, uninspired objectives and a shedload of technical issues make Sniper one of the worst shooters this generation.

  • It's awfully gratifying to line up a perfect kill and be rewarded with a bullet-time slow-mo sequence that shows what happened to the bad guy's head after you squeezed the trigger. But annoyances like the punitive stealth sequences, and insane difficulty spikes make the satisfying moments few and far between.

  • Sniper: Ghost Warrior suffers from a barrage of technical and design mishaps that make it hard to recommend wholeheartedly

  • Sniper: Ghost Warrior is priced below other new games, but even then, it can't compete against the games it borrows from. Without the AI and stealth problems, it might be a decent, if extremely derivative, shooter. As it is now, you're better off skipping this one. Note that a patch is forthcoming that is supposed to fix AI issues.

Shooter devotees desperate to find something different this summer might be able to scrape out something of value in Sniper: Ghost Warrior, but even the most hard-up gamer would likely be better served looking backwards toward other, better executed titles from the last few years such as the aforementioned ARMA 2 or Operation: Flashpoint. Hopefully, City Interactive can bring something more fleshed out to the table next time.

  • Sniper: Ghost Warrior is not going to win any awards, and it's not going to win a lot of converts. It's simply too inconsistent with its technical issues and difficulty that's literally all over the map. It's an experience, but not all experiences are great, and Sniper: Ghost Warrior is anything but.

  • Despite all the problems there are some fun moments to be extracted from those long-range set piece sniping galleries, and there is certainly something to be said for taking a more specialist approach in a genre full to the brim of identikit shooters. At the end of the day though, good intentions and sporadic success can only carry a campaign so far, and Sniper unfortunately falls well short of the quality benchmark in almost all respects.

  • In the end Sniper: Ghost Warrior fails at coming together. What little positive elements it has going for it are marred by its problems. Maybe with more time and some lessons learned a sequel could provide the kind of gaming experience that the developer was hoping to achieve with this game, but to say that despite this games list of flaws you’ll still find a fun experience would be grossly incorrect.

  • Low-budget games can be charming experiences, given the right mix of inspiration and passion. Just look at DarkStar One if you need a recent example of a title that overcomes its surface limitations by offering solid gameplay to a neglected niche. Yet Sniper Ghost Warrior can't even manage to hit that easy target.

  • Near unassailable repetitiveness. Sniper 2: Ghost Warrior is a well presented game, but its lack of variance quickly diminishes any entertainment and turns it into a chore.

About the game

When the democratic government of Isla Trueno is overthrown, an aggressive and hostile military command rises to power. A highly trained special ops unit is sent in to help the rebels accomplish objectives that only a sniper can handle. In addition to intense sniper missions, players will also take part in a variety of assault scenarios where their prowess with weapons will be a huge help to the undermanned rebels.
