- Sniper Elite V2 is a game in which, through an x-ray kill-cam, you can see a man’s testicles explode from the force of a high-velocity sniper rifle round. But the sooner you giggle that imagery out of your system, the sooner you’ll realize that such silliness is in stark contrast to the realism and quality that this game exhibits. It’s not always the most polished game, but overall, it’s a pleasantly fun surprise.
Matt Hughes · Jun 24, 2012 Reviewed on PC, X360Read full review - Adjusting for bullet-drop and wind strength becomes second nature, to the point that a missed shot feels like the consequence of your own stress in tight spots. Even in the weakest moments, shooting enemies from range is enjoyable enough to carry it. That the game so often falls back on this, however, shows some serious structural flaws with the level design. Ultimately Sniper Elite V2's linearity gets in the way of the danger and tension that its campaign attempts to evoke.
Phil Savage · Jun 07, 2012 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Sniper Elite holds just as many pleasant surprises as it does disappointments. Despite the well-done gunplay and unique aesthetic flares, there are simply too many areas in which the game feels underdeveloped. Without a sound stealth mechanic in place, you never feel as empowered as you ought to, the absence of a HUD or any sort of tactical overlay coating on an additional layer of fragility.
Jim Hargreaves · May 22, 2012 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Sniper Elite V2 is a solid game and one that should provide plenty of entertainment for those with an interest in brutally doing away with their enemies with a high powered rifle (read: everyone). Sadly there are a few flaws that hold the game back and make it a more frustrating experience than it ought to be. There is still plenty here to enjoy, but only if you're prepared to endure a few rough spots.
Lee Abrahams · May 20, 2012 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Sniper Elite V2 certainly includes much more sniping techniques than your normal action shooter, which makes it different and fun to play, but it needs more of a storyline and varied missions to emphasize those features. Despite its sub-par and repetitive gameplay, there is still much to do after the SP campaign is completed, making this game worthy enough to at least try it out and see if you have steady aim.
Kuulei_N · May 16, 2012 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Sniper Elite V2 comes with a twist, however: What if you could snipe Nazis in the balls? Tantalizing, I know. Sniper Elite V2 is the perfect meeting point between shooters today and shooters a decade ago. On one side, you have a tasteful campaign based around (partially) historical events. On the other, you have gore galore and bloody balls.
Allistair Pinsof · May 16, 2012 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Sniper Elite V2 pins almost all of its hopes on its sniping mechanic, and it enjoys some success as a result. The game’s disappointing presentation and lack of variety prevent it from providing much more than disposable entertainment, but with engaging gunplay and some decent replayability options, it’s an enjoyable distraction when experienced in small chunks.
Sammy Barker · May 15, 2012 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - V2's gratuitous X-Ray kill-cam adds a macabre elegance to every perfectly-timed shot you make that gives your careful handiwork an appealing artistic flair. While the ground combat and close-up encounters aren't as tight as you'd expect from a common shooter, the sniper gameplay is front-and-center here, and it's delivered with top-notch class and authenticity. Even if you think you've had your fill of the WWII genre, this ballsy tactical shooter could definitely change your mind, and blow other peoples' wide open.
NATHAN MEUNIER · May 14, 2012 Reviewed on PC, PS3, X360Read full review - A few imperfections prevent Sniper Elite V2 from being the perfect tactical shooter, but we’ve thoroughly enjoyed the change of pace that stealth play brings in the wartime environment. While the inconsistent A.I. can be distracting, and the occasional problem with hit detection can be frustrating, it’s a game that rewards patience well and there’s nothing more satisfying then clearing an area of a dozen enemies with a round of carefully-placed headshots.
Steven Williamson · May 04, 2012 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Sniper Elite V2 was a decent game, but I wouldn't call it a work of art. Its dedication to the nuances of sniping is interesting, but that's unfortunately all it has going for it. Unfortunately, a game that only does sniping well really feels like only half of a game. In fact, it feels like the designers spent more time designing the gruesome kill cam than the non-sniping portions of the game. If you absolutely love sniping in first-person shooters, then you might want to check this out.
