  • Even when Slitterhead gets to its wilder stretches, and time travel enters the mix, the fundamentals fail its ideas early and often, making the relatively reasonable length of the thing feel so much longer and more arduous as a result. Slitterhead would have felt lackluster on the PS3, but it feels downright draconian now.

  • Slitterhead is a refreshingly different experience with its unique blend of B-movie horror, inventive mechanics, and world-building. The possession mechanic is cleverly implemented and adds depth to exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat. While the combat itself could be more engaging, the game’s strengths lie in its atmosphere, visuals, and soundtrack. If you’re seeking a game that breaks the mold though, Slitterhead is worth exploring.

  • Slitterhead is quite possibly the single most interesting game of 2024, but prospective players need to be aware of the journey that’s ahead of them. If seeing some genuinely bold and indulgent game design decisions is worth fighting against a bit of jank, then this game is absolutely for you. If you want to always know where to go and what to do next, maybe not. Even then, I think you should play Slitterhead, simply because you’re unlikely to see anything like it ever again.

  • While it has some clever ideas, Slitterhead never realises its potential, feeling like it would have benefited from more time in development.

  • Slitterhead has a lot of fascinating ideas and compelling gameplay on the surface, but beneath, it's just boring and banal--a bunch of scary-looking monsters who turn out not to be very scary at all.

  • Slitterhead offers a refreshing and unique experience that pays homage to Bokeh's pedigree while still establishing its own identity. Despite some minor flaws, the game makes great use of its weird but wonderful narrative and ingenious possession mechanics to bewitch you from the beginning. With such a distinctive sense of direction and style, Slitterhead is an incredibly strong debut that firmly establishes Bokeh as a studio to watch.
