Critic Reviews
- Absolutely. Skul: The Hero Slayer is a hardcore rogue-lite experience that will test your skills, patience and adaptability. Its unique skull-swapping mechanic, combined with challenging combat and stunning pixel art, makes it a standout title in the genre.
Divine Ekong · Aug 12, 2024 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Despite the annoying lag and irresponsive controls, the game still offers great entertainment for fans of action platformers. Hopefully, the issues will be addressed in the future.
Alex Sem · Jun 27, 2024 Reviewed onRead full review - Skul: The Hero Slayer turns you into an adaptable skeleton fighter with magic potential and physical skills to boot to fight, jump, and struggle with the touchscreen.
Will Quick · Jun 05, 2024 Reviewed onRead full review - It’s charming, plays great, and has real legs. The devs understand what makes roguelites so popular. That “one more run” mentality where those runs aren’t too long, feature a lot of variety that you can control, and they feel good to play.
Jesse Norris · Feb 10, 2022 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Outside of the reset upgrades and story, Skul the Hero Slayer is largely successful. Runs and levels have a timer for speedrunning fans, but the timer also shows how bite-sized they feel. Depending on your skill, runs can last 10 minutes or an hour. The game moves at a good pace and when finding the perfect combo of skulls and items, the gameplay is very satisfying.
Alex Orona · Oct 29, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Overall, Skul: The Hero Slayer is a great roguelike where we play a very funny antihero trying to save his masters from actual heroes who have come to flex how powerful humans are. The game is great at making fun of itself since we get to use bones we got from our friends as weapons and we get to throw our own skull at enemies.
Jett Vincent Sia · Oct 24, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - This story of a tiny hero is charming and disarming… figuratively and, occasionally, literally. While he is small in stature, Skul proves that sometimes even the smallest among us may achieve the greatest things. Against all odds, Skul may just be the key to fulfilling the dreams of Carleon's First Hero AND the machinations of the Demon King.
Damien Gula · Feb 05, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The new mechanics add significant flavor and charm to an already solid package. Good music and art combined with satisfying combat and a dash of good humor make the difficulty spikes bearable and the few frustrations bearable.
John Schutt · Feb 03, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - A genre reliant on repetition has to accommodate for it by offsetting the recursive elements of the game, no matter how good the combat is. Skul: The Hero Slayer is certainly enjoyable on occasion, but its roguelite ingredients ultimately harm the title as a whole.
Garland Pan · Feb 03, 2021 Reviewed on PC - Skul: The Hero Slayer is a fun little title whose cute graphics belie the tough challenges and grinds that lie within. Dying is all part of the appeal, and never once is it frustrating or unfair. You’ll want to keep returning again and again in order to get just a little bit further, or to perhaps secure a new type of outfit or skill.

About the game
Trailers & Screenshots:
Skul is a fast-paced action rogue-lite where losing your head is encouraged.
Featuring 100 playable characters each with their own unique abilities and a ton of items that can create wild synergies, the battles are as electrifying as they are challenging.
The Demon King's Castle in Ruins
The human race attacking the Demon King's castle is nothing new and has happened countless times before.
What makes this time different though, is that the Adventurers decided to join forces with the Imperial Army and the 'Hero of Caerleon' to lead a full onslaught in hopes of wiping out the Demons once and for all.
They attacked the Demon stronghold with overwhelming numbers and succeeded in its total destruction. All of the demons in the castle were taken prisoner except for one lone skeleton named 'Skul'.
