- Its vibrant and original art is slick and well animated, its excessive gore and cliche-action-movie-style cutscenes are funny and satisfying in equal measures, and its fast, challenging gameplay is suitably visceral and deeply satisfying. But it’s way too short, and the lack of campaign co-op is an epic disappointment, especially considering its presence in the first game.
Mike Jackson · Feb 24, 2012 Reviewed on PS3 - On the whole, Shank 2 takes the best bits of the first game and builds on them. It might not last much longer than a few hours to run through but leader boards and the Survival mode should offer some replay potential and at a budget price, it’s well worth blasting through — if you can handle the action.
Peter Chapman · Feb 15, 2012 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - All in all, Shank 2 can be summed up as "fine." It isn't going to revolutionize brawlers or bring anything truly unique to the table, but it isn't a bad game either. Some of the strongest points also seem to be the weakest, but there are some places where they get done right.
Victoria Medina · Feb 15, 2012 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Shank 2 stays safely in the bounds of a typical side-scrolling action title. It never takes any chances but delivers an overall solid beat ‘em up. Inconsistent difficulty, nonexistent story and a lack of gameplay variety hold Shank 2 back, but those looking for a better playing experience from Shank’s last outing might want to give the sequel a try.
Lorenzo Veloria · Feb 14, 2012 Reviewed on X360Read full review - If you live with a gamer buddy or find yourself frequently in need of some quick, mindless, violent action, Shank 2 is definitely for you. Try the demo if you're unsure. Maybe you're more capable of turning off your brain than you ever knew.
Daniel Bischoff · Feb 14, 2012 Reviewed on X360Read full review - he story is a jumbled, disconnected mess rather than a stylish, Tarantino-inspired mess. Combat has been neutered with the inability to swap primary weapons at will, and the primarily flat level layouts feel bland compared to Shank's parkour rooftop battles. Shank 2 is still a perfectly competent brawler, but it lacks that spark to make it stand out in the genre, even compared to its predecessor.
Gamespot Staff · Feb 14, 2012 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - Overall, Shank 2 is an impressive package, but there are two complaints which players could levy against the game. First, the campaign is very short with each level taking around 20-30 minutes to complete, and even that timing is perhaps generous for some of the earlier levels. Second, the lack of any co-op campaign element is a bit of a letdown, especially considering that it has been replaced with what would appear to be a limited Survival Mode.
Vivas Kaul · Feb 13, 2012 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - While I continue to respect Klei Entertainment’s art style and devotion to bloody fantasy above all else, it needs to design less frustrating levels and encounters before its games truly click for me. The upgrades in Shank 2 are a lot like the act of revenge: It feels satisfying in the short term, but in the end you’re left with the empty feeling that maybe it didn’t improve that much at all.
Phil Kollar · Feb 10, 2012 Reviewed on PS3, X360 - Shank 2 doesn't do much that's new or original. It's a refinement of what came before it, from the original Shank to manic classics like Metal Slug. But there's a lot of quality fun packed into this inexpensive download, making it a perfect choice for simple, fast-paced action.
Britton Peele · Feb 10, 2012 Reviewed on PS3 - Its cooler, smoother, has a seriously dark sense of style, and the Survival Mode will probably keep you occupied for longer than you would think. If the answer is no, then let me say that Shank 2 is an improvement over the original in every way. The controls are tighter, the gameplay is more fun, and the game feels far less cheap. If these are the things that kept you from enjoying the original, then Shank 2 is right up your alley.
