- It’s rare that you see a developer take a huge risk like this by completely changing the genre of a franchise. Though Shadowrun is a first-person shooter, it still manages to include a lot of the qualities that made the original RPG a hit. At the same time, with just a few multiplayer modes and a paltry nine maps, the fun only lasts for so long.
Game Trailers · Jun 06, 2007 Reviewed on PC, X360 - As gamers, it's rewards we crave, be it of the narrative variety, in-game items, new options or modes, or something entirely different. Shadowrun completely ducks away from the gaming tenet that sometimes the utterly superfluous can be the most necessary.
Charles Onyett · Jun 04, 2007 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Sadly, Shadowrun's answer to each of those questions is apparently "No." The innovation and surprise goes no further than the dwarves, trolls and magic. As much fun as those elements add to the shooter genre, they're simply not enough to compensate for the absence of everything else.
Charlie Barratt · Jun 01, 2007 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Perhaps the most telling aspect of Shadowrun comes from WizKids, the maker of the other Shadowrun stuff. When the game was first unveiled last year, it alerted Shadowrun fans that this might not be for them by posting "fair warning, however: Microsoft rewrote the timeline and setting for this game, so it is not in continuity with the tabletop RPG.
Jeff Gerstmann · Jun 01, 2007 Reviewed on PC, X360Read full review - It's a fairly enjoyable, inoffensive shooter while it lasts, but Shadowrun is definitely not the game to carry the cross-platform torch. On Xbox 360 it'll be dead the morning of September 26 - if not sooner - and on PC you're better off plying Counter-Strike with one of those Warcraft mods.
Andy Robinson · May 31, 2007 Reviewed on PC, X360 - If there was ever an example of a new game that should have been released as a downloadable game, Shadowrun is a top candidate. The gameplay has top-notch controls and close to limitless options when using Magic and Tech abilities. The limited gameplay modes are a big disappointment, especially considering the price point. It’s hard to recommend this game to everyone during the initial release but with a better price point this could be a timeless game that will attract gamers for years.
jkdmedia · May 29, 2007 Reviewed on PC, X360Read full review - Shadowrun's ambition to make players from Xbox 360 and PC play together has worked. It can be enjoyable to work out good combinations of magic and tech, and see them succeed. We can foresee a hardcore of gamers carrying on playing it and developing new, unique ways of playing, turning this into a real working game (that newbies will find impenetrable).
Total Xbox · Jun 12, 2007 Reviewed on X360 - It'll be interesting to watch how this plays out. PC owners are always sensitive over anyone fiddling with their mouse sensitivity and 360 owners may actually bristle slightly that the people who are turning faster than they are paid less than them for exactly the same game.
