  • Schim is certainly cute, charming, and has a surprisingly emotional look into the themes of depression and midlife crisis. Perhaps it could dig deeper into its arguments, and maybe even dare a bit more with its gamepaly. Similarly, with a length of only about 3 hours and limited replayability, the launch price of 24.99USD/24,99EUR feels a little excessive, and I would absolutely recommend waiting for a sale. But when that sale does arrive, give Schim your consideration: it’s a quite beautiful little game with an intriguing concept and even a good message to give to its players.

  • From narrative to game design, SCHiM quickly feels like it's spinning its wheels. While a charming title in concept and presentation, Ewoud van der Werf and Nils Slijkerman didn't step outside the shadow-platforming basics often enough. And it's wild to see that too, given both the demanding $24.99 price point and how many obvious expansions on the formula were seemingly at their fingertips. Instead, they made playing with a fun, googly-eyed blob SCHiM-ply feel boring over time.

  • SCHiM is built around contrast — light and dark, youth and age, harsh reality and naïve whimsy. Unfortunately, this dichotomous nature leaks into its mechanics, leading to an overall sense of inconsistency. The moments of touching beauty and joyful movement it sometimes creates stand in stark opposition to the frustration and confusion when play breaks down. This juxtaposition doesn’t make SCHiM a failure, but it casts a shadow over the experience that’s hard to see past.

  • Once the game ended I felt underwhelmed. For something that looks this gorgeous and has such a confident sense of style, that feeling doesn’t translate to the actual gameplay. All I could think about were the missed chances of having this cute shadow frog interact more with the world or have an emotional connection through its adventure, rather than just constantly chasing an ever-changing endpoint that never really satisfies.

  • I’m not a fan of jumping puzzle games, but SCHiM managed to win me over. Its minimalist art style, inventive use of shadows and movement, and the idea that the game makes sure that messing up doesn’t feel too frustrating, kept me engaged level after level.

  • SCHiM: SCHiM is a unique 3D platformer that offers a relaxing and engaging experience. Its visual style, clever puzzles, and soothing soundtrack create a game that is enjoyable to play and pleasing to the senses. While the gameplay might feel basic at times and the camera can be a bit tricky, the overall experience is worth it. If you’re looking for a platformer that offers something different, SCHiM is a game you should consider trying. It’s a testament to thoughtful game design and an enjoyable journey through a world of shadows.

  • SCHiM is an indie gem that is both simple in concept, but also bursting of creativity and originality. The gameplay itself might be a bit too simplistic for those looking for an adrenaline rush or instant gratification, but those who love this kind of puzzle 3D platformers will truly appreciate the effort behind it. The end result is an endearing experience, that has a few gameplay issues but overall becomes a memorable game thanks to its atmosphere and innocent approach to life.

  • Not hard enough to be a challenge, but not painless enough to be relaxing.

  • SCHiM is a delight of a game. Taking a concept that some of us may have played out in our heads as kids, imaging something jumping across the shadows or us jumping ourselves, and have turned that into a beautiful game. Without words, without facial expressions, and limiting color palettes, SCHiM manages to make something really unique.
