- Scathe is an alright game, though it suffers from a bad progression system. You will find yourself doing the same thing over and over for no good reason. There’s no progression in the story, the weapons are somewhat disappointing due to the lack of upgrades, and there was hardly anything ‘new’ to look forward to. This is a game you can play if you just want to enjoy some casual FPS bullet-hell action.

Somewhere underneath the agonizingly-slow progression, pointless plot, and a visual mess as a result of its desire to also be a bullet hell, Scathe is a game with potential that’s sadly never reached.

The story is good enough and the combat feels visceral. Moving through the same rooms can become repetitive but the FPS mechanics are good enough to keep players engaged.

Indeed, shooting gives a certain satisfaction, the infernal setting is sick and violent at the right point, the spells add a bit of variety and the online co-op makes you feel less of the underlying repetitiveness that, for better or for worse, characterizes often these bullet-hell in subjective. The debut game of Damage State, however, fails to go beyond a full sufficiency for different limits in its structure, for a personality heavily clouded by the DOOM model and for a difficulty that really needs a nice rebalancing.

Giocandoci traspira una certa passione per il modo classico di concepire gli sparatutto in prima persona, nonché per un certo immaginario, ma la realizzazione ha troppo elementi che lasciano a desiderare ed è, quindi, davvero difficile consigliarlo. Il risultato è un gioco complessivamente mediocre, che andrebbe revisionato in più parti per funzionare davvero bene.

Considerate le dimensioni del team, resta comunque una buona prova.
