  • Sanctum 2 is a unique title offering a entertaining experience that can’t be found elsewhere, but it isn’t without its flaws. Most notably it hides way too much information from the player making it awkward to form strategies, which is odd considering the nature of the game. That being said Sanctum 2 combines two genres fairly well as a whole, and blasting aliens while building an intricate base is always exciting.

  • Simply put, Sanctum 2 is an incredibly clever, incredibly fun game. Setting up your towers is intellectually challenging, and mowing down enemies is a wonderful blend of mindless excitement and strategy. It's great to have all these elements together in one game.

  • With a smart blend of action and strategy, Sanctum 2 successfully combines two disparate genres into one cohesive--and enjoyable--whole. Whether you're a fan of its predecessor or are new to the series, there's a lot to enjoy in this genre-bending hybrid. Every element from the original game has been expanded upon, creating a lengthy adventure that continues to feel fresh even after multiple completions.

  • It isn't quite as much tower defense as fans of the first game would probably hope for, since more of the emphasis this time around is placed on the first-person shooting element. It also hides way too much information from the player, leading to a lot of guess-and-check strategies. The game remains a refreshing hybrid of genres, however, and many of the frustrations temporarily wash away as you lay witness to the last enemy in the last wave die, proving that your strategic planning and accurate shooting have paid off.

  • All told, Sanctum 2 is a ton of fun to play, offering 4-player drop in/drop out online co-op, as well as a rich single player experience. In co-op, you'll have a shared tower limit, as well as the ability to grief your teammates by recycling their towers to build your own. The blend of FPS and tower defense is a stroke of genius, giving players on both sides of the strategy/twitch spectrum something to enjoy here.

  • Sanctum 2 shines brightest when it's forcing you to think and consider all the options it places in front of you, from tower choice to which enemies to gun down to what perks are the most advantageous. Being tested on and off the battlefield with my decisions kept me constantly picking my brain. For those who enjoy tapping into new creative ways for victory, Sanctum 2 doesn't disappoint.

Sanctum 2 improves on the first Sanctum in almost every way, including its robust leveling system and perks, its improved turret management, its visual style, and its customization. Awkward resource handling in co-op and overused boss models detract only a little from the fun of the whole. Whereas the first Sanctum is a fun little oddity that brought some new ideas to the tower-defense genre, this sequel's a tightly paced adventure that builds on them and maintains its momentum to the very end.

  • Sanctum 2 is a unique game experience that is quite successful in bringing two of today's hottest genres together in an engaging way. Sure, there are plenty of tower defense games out there that do it better, and sure, the shooting mechanics aren't up to snuff with the best of the bunch, but Coffee Stain Studios' is more than the sum of its parts. If you're looking for a fun, multi-layered time-waster that you and your online buddies can enjoy, give this one a look.

  • Sanctum 2 is a rare representation of a game that was developed with an open ear. When Sanctum was released in 2011, it was a great idea that wasn’t without flaws in the structure of its design. Here, Coffee Stain Studios have taken the time to improve upon every mentioned or perceived flaw, and produced an indie gem polished in the fire of scrutiny. While Sanctum 2 is still a tough game, it’s tough in smart substantive ways that add up.

  • Sanctum 2 at the very least improves on every aspect of its clunky predecessor, offering smoother and more enjoyable gameplay and living up to the great promise offered by the premise. Furthermore the visuals are cool and sleek and the techno-tunes catchy. Unfortunately if you’re not playing with a friend you’ll either have a limited gameplay experience or a frustrating one as you watch some idiot steal all the resources and use them stupidly (at least you can undo everything they’ve done).
