On top of that, making players have to constantly keep track of under leveled allies will get annoying as well, and add more time to an already long mission. While not a terrible Warriors game, I would only suggest this to the hardcore fans with a 3DS, and even then I would wait for a price drop.

  • Bottom-line is, if you’ve been playing games for any length of time, you’ve likely played a game in this series (there are roughly 3,000 of them after all... could be fewer), and you know what to expect. What it may lack in honest-to-goodness personality, it almost makes up for in button-mashing fun, and the satisfaction of that little KO number reaching three or four digits. Seems like a lopsided battle to me.

  • If you’re already a fan of the Warriors series, this will provide a great fix for you on the go. If you’re not a fan, then this is a good place to start, as Chronicles has many of the same features as its console brethren and will provide many hours of entertainment.

  • Samurai Warriors: Chronicles 3 does a fine job executing the well-known Samurai Warriors formula for gamers on the 3DS. Its layout and interface is seamless to get accustomed to and is fairly enjoyable for some on-the-go action. However, aspects like the intricate details the Samurai Warriors titles are known for can’t fully be appreciated on the 3DS due to its hardware capabilities.

  • There’s a great game lying at the core of Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3. It uses the fantastic SW4 as a basis and translates the raw action wonderfully to a smaller screen. However, all the quality content is broken up by meandering twaddle, the game incessantly interrupting itself with irrelevant information. Still, the game regularly untethers itself long enough to provide some gratifying portable fun – not enough for me to encourage anybody to immediately obtain it, but it’s a decent enough timewaster to be worth checking out at some point in time.

  • Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3 is a tedious and repetitive game that will see you mindlessly slash your way through thousands of enemies without a care for the story that it tries to create around the main missions. With a 10-15 hour story mode, you'll be wishing it was over by the end of the first 5 hours.

  • Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3 is held back by the switch to the 3DS, and I recommend just picking up the past core entry instead. In the meantime, I'll attempt to locate a Vita version to see how it compares to Warriors 4, which was also released on the Vita earlier this year. With some of the performance issues smoothed out, this personal story would be more worth telling.

  • There certainly seems to be enough content in the game to justify the $29.99 price tag, but do keep in mind that this is a digital-only download. Fans of the series who don't have a Vita and longed for another Warriors game on the go, and don't want to wait for the fantastic Hyrule Warriors should certainly give it a shot. Vita owners might be better off sticking with Samurai Warriors 4, as the minor differences in gameplay don't seem to make this a more definitive edition.

  • Samurai Warriors' return to Nintendo platforms is a welcome one, even if it is a little flawed in places. The combat is as solid as ever, and fans will appreciate the effort and attention that's been put into the personalised story mode. With an addictive character progression system and a huge roster of fighters, Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3 provides plenty of bang for your buck, although it is a shame that the series' trademark heaving battlefields have been toned down to such an extent in order to fit them onto the 3DS.

  • Ultimately, Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3 is just okay. While the gameplay and controls are good enough, the story mode itself isn't anything to shout at. The game feels unbalanced too, mostly thanks to the characters that are constantly introduced. They will go into battles that they can barely survive, which makes your experience unnecessarily difficult.
