- The use of the Move motion controller's pointer supplements console RTS control brilliantly, making selecting and directing units faster and more decisive. Its incorporation of a 'spy hunt' story is engaging and the visual presentation of a map, which can be scaled between a distant camera and close-up detail, is technically impressive. The strategy of the ruse cards, combined with the Move controls, elevate R.U.S.E. above the PS3 RTS battlefield.
Jamie O'Neill · Sep 29, 2010 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - RUSE takes a while to warm up, but once it does, it's cracking stuff, as the game's unfailingly proper British generals would no doubt put it. The Ruse mechanics do much to breathe fresh air into the genre, allowing for a pleasing game of tank-based poker. Its faults that slow, slow pacing and yawning, sluggish start are largely the result of this approach, and we're inclined to forgive them for the focus on the original psychological gameplay it creates.
Keza Macdonald · Sep 24, 2010 Reviewed on PCRead full review - R.U.S.E. succeeds as a solid RTS with a fun focus on deceit, even if it's a little more conventional than we were hoping for. If strategy, scheming, and using every trick in the book sounds better than the status quo, then this is one strategy game worth the consideration.
Game Trailers · Sep 17, 2010 Reviewed on PS3 - R.U.S.E. is a great RTS. It may not be as robust as some of the RTS’s that are available on the PC, but this is easily the best RTS’s you can find on the PS3. If you are a strategy fan, this is an easy pick up for you. If you’re not that into RTS’s, R.U.S.E. will offer some fun, but won’t get you to change your mind about the genre.
Josh Fernandes · Sep 15, 2010 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - It's unfortunate that the spiritless campaign fails to elevate R.U.S.E. to the head of its class. And yet, when it's allowed to breathe--both online and in one-off skirmishes--it's a flexible strategy game that requires you to think differently. Every game follows a unique path, requiring lots of smart recon and using ruses to fool your enemy. If you can look past the foibles, you'll find R.U.S.E. to be a fun and occasionally intense real-time strategy game that's just unusual enough to catch your imagination.
Kevin VanOrd · Sep 13, 2010 Reviewed on PC, PS3, X360Read full review - The tried and true traditions of RTS haven't been limited by the console; they've been reworked, and given a new lick of paint. The PC still has a tight grip on strategy gaming, but while R.U.S.E. won't necessarily be the opening the doors to a new generation of console RTS titles, it does at least prove that other platforms can provide the odd fresh spin on the genre.
Emily Gera · Sep 08, 2010 Reviewed on X360Read full review - A number of hiccups in the control scheme and unit AI keep the gameplay from being as smooth as I'd like, and the console versions suffer from constant texture draw-in and object pop-up when you're quickly flitting about the map – which is most of the time. I hope online play finds an audience, though, because it's a unique flavor that is sure to resonate with a fair number of gamers. I can't recommend R.U.S.E. without reservations, but RTS enthusiasts may find what they're looking for.
Adam Biessener · Sep 07, 2010 Reviewed on PC, PS3, X360 - The zoom feature is implemented nearly as well as I've ever seen in an RTS, and the deceptive tactics are fresh and fun. But the bigger issue is whether or not you've got enough cash in your pocket to shell out for another strategy game between Starcraft 2 and Civilization 5. It's not as good as those games, not by a long shot, but if you're hungry for another strategy experience (or you just don't like Starcraft and Civilization), you could do a lot worse than R.U.S.E.
Andrew Groen · Sep 07, 2010 Reviewed on PC, PS3, X360Read full review - Normally, this would be the point in a Ubisoft review where I raged about the draconian DRM. Not this time, as the publishers have had an eleventh-hour Damascene rethink. There's now nothing – besides a fear of being outfoxed – to stop you enjoying this accomplished addition to the Sherman-shuffling genre.
Tim Stone · Sep 07, 2010 Reviewed on PCRead full review - If the pace weren't horrendous and the campaign so god-awfully boring, R.U.S.E. would make for an enjoyable RTS but certainly not a groundbreaking one. World War II just isn't the biggest thrill anymore, Nazis are overused and the overall package surrounding the gameplay – graphics, story, multiplayer options – is weak at best.
