- You will be spending less time driving sideways, and more time boosting through structures and destroying other racers. It doesn't feel entirely accurate to call this a Ridge Racer game, but when you are able to pull off an impressive drift careening around a sharp turn, destroying a competing racer in the process, you will feel a brief spark of joy. It’s just an inconsistent spark, unfortunately.
Kyle Hilliard · May 16, 2012 Reviewed on PS3, X360 - Despite its frustrating inability to explain itself, Unbounded is often fun even when you're playing it badly. Plenty of recent games have tried to extend the explosive, action-packed racing genre and build upon what Burnout once got so right. Unbounded comes closer than any other attempt so far, finding a new formula by blending Ridge Racer's inner city drifting and combining it with FlatOut's building wrecking.
Graham Smith · May 01, 2012 Reviewed on PCRead full review - There is a lot of fun to have in Unbounded, but at times the track progression feels repetitive and the track editor may go unused by some because it’s a bit inaccessible. Still, this is a blast for those looking for an exciting and explosive racer. Get over the tough learning curve, spend some time on other users’ tracks, build your own, and master drifting and you are on your way to a truly enjoyable experience.
Adam Dolge · Apr 16, 2012 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - The feel here is completely different, to the point that we spent our first couple hours just trying to get a handle on how to successfully drift in Unbounded’s strange new world of physics. Once we got the idea it was fine, but the learning curve may be substantial if you come in expecting typical Ridge Racer physics.
Alexandra Hall · Apr 13, 2012 Reviewed on X360Read full review - You have to give Ridge Racer Unbounded points for trying something new. The series has gone downhill at a blistering pace following industry embarassments like this one. Bringing fresh ideas to the table and executing them in a stylish matter is exactly what the doctor ordered.
Daniel Bischoff · Apr 13, 2012 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Ridge Racer: Unbounded is incredibly fun to play, but appraising its total value is problematic. The game’s long-term entertainment value is tied up in multiplayer, and while I’m confident the user-generated tracks will always yield new and interesting experiences, playing with other players won’t so much.
Lawrence Sonntag · Apr 11, 2012 Reviewed on X360 - Is the Ridge Racer franchise long overdue for a renaissance? Absolutely. Is Unbounded a step in the right direction? Absolutely not. A glossier coat of paint can’t hide Bugbear’s signature unbalanced gameplay and defective physics. At worst, I barely had any fun no matter how hard I tried to. At best, this game makes me wish I was playing the vastly superior Split/Second instead.
Sebastian Haley · Apr 11, 2012 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Simply put, there remain some better arcade racers on the market as Split-Second and Burnout Revenge are just two that come to mind that offer up a better overall experience. Nevertheless, if you are looking for a good little smash em’ up arcade racer that is the freshest game in town, then Ridge Racer Unbounded for the Xbox 360 may just be right up your alley.
Trevor Houston · Apr 09, 2012 Reviewed on X360Read full review - With an emphasis on vehicular carnage and shattering buildings, Ridge Racer Unbounded rides high as long as you can find new thrills. However, the way it recycles elements from course to course quickly wears away the sense of discovery and makes it hard for user creations to truly stand apart.
Game Trailers · Apr 04, 2012 Reviewed on X360 - What Ridge Racer Unbounded does right is high-thrills racing and crazy action -- like smashing through a municipal building only to boost off an elevated train track that then leads you into a truck filled with explosives. It is unfortunate that the rest of the game doesn’t support this grand spectacle.
