- Resistance 2 packs some pretty spectacular scenes, but for the most part is pretty average
Mike Jackson · Nov 27, 2008 Reviewed on PS3 - Resistance 2 is a great shooter with outstanding multiplayer components that transcend its lackluster single player campaign. The campaign’s scale and the ingenuity displayed in the boss fights will give players an experience they have never had before, but it ultimately collapses on itself with poor design and execution in both level and story progression. The audio and visuals are excellent set pieces and definitely aren’t a detraction. The problems with the campaign aren’t brought into the fold in the two separate multiplayer components, which are above and beyond any PlayStation Network title thus far.
Brad Nicholson · Nov 26, 2008 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - It's a solid FPS, with moments of brilliance and some top notch multiplayer modes. It isn't the system seller it could have been though. The campaign is the biggest offender, switching between mediocre and spectacular far too regularly, as does the presentation. The storyline and characters once again fall flat, with Insomniac failing to build anything to really care about into a sci-fi premise that has an awful lot of potential.
Tom Orry · Nov 10, 2008 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Resistance 2 has a rubbish single-player campaign, which left me angry and confused. The lack of coherent storytelling is my biggest issue, but there's really nothing wrong with the overall gameplay. I am still of the opinion that the rest of the package makes it one of the best multiplayer shooters currently out for the PlayStation 3. Though my experience with the co-op definitely varied depending on the group I was with, it never ceased being entertaining.
Vinny Caravella · Nov 10, 2008 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Resistance 2 offers more than the first game on all fronts. A better-designed single-player experience, more online mayhem with almost unthinkable amounts of player support, and a unique co-op mode make it easy to recommend. It's a little derivative, but it's an incredible value and a top quality production. Hopefully the next Resistance will be a revolution.
Game Trailers · Nov 06, 2008 Reviewed on PS3 - All in all, Resistance 2 is an excellent game. The stirring scale of the single-player levels is impressive and the pervasive details make them truly awesome. Despite the squandered story, blasting your way through the campaign is electrifying, thanks largely to the deadly weapons in your arsenal. The cooperative multiplayer is a resounding success, and the competitive modes are terrific in their own right.
Chris Watters · Nov 05, 2008 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Resistance 2 is one of those games that manages to expand on its predecessor in every way. The single player is epic in scope and in story, which is practically worth the price of admission by itself. Then you throw in the extremely engaging co-op and competitive play, which expands on replayability in just about every way possible. Toss in a generous number of unlockables, Trophies and community support, and you've got a phenomenal experience.
Jeff Haynes · Oct 28, 2008 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - If only some of the story problems had been worked out in order to provide for a more cohesive game universe, or there was more variety in the single player, this would have been an excellent title. But in spite of the initial awkwardness of the single player experience the game pulls through thanks to its excellent online offerings. Resistance 2 offers enough thrills, technical marvels and value to satisfy most fans of the original - and shooter fans in general - for hours on end.
Xavier Griffiths · May 14, 2009 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Though it's certainly a competent package, the overall feeling engendered by Resistance 2 is underwhelming. For every breathless set-piece that powers the single-player campaign, there's another moment not far behind that peddles mediocrity, and every glorious vista is offset by sometimes derivative play. Ultimately the myriad multiplayer options atone for the patchy single player to ensure it's a worthy purchase, but one that's not quite essential.
Martin Robinson · Nov 27, 2008 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Overall, multiplayer is the satisfying other half to a formidable package, and Resistance 2 is precisely the sort of exclusive game that the PS3 needs. Improving tenfold on its predecessor in almost every area, it not only belongs on the shopping list of existing Resistance fans, but those who were underwhelmed with the original will also want to check it out, and then fight for it on the internet. It's the way of the warrior.
