- Resident Evil 0 remains a good game in the series. Even with your AI partner's occasional lapses in judgment, the dynamic makes the standard formula feel fresh, while the lack of chests can be either good or bad depending on your outlook. The stunted load times ruin the mood since they occur all the time. If you don't mind that and you want to own the game in a portable form, this port isn't all that bad.
Cody Medellin · Oct 24, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Another difference over the GameCube version is an unlockable mode after you finish the game called Wesker Mode. This mode allows you to play through the game with Wesker, rather than Billy. The big thing here though is that this is a powered up Wesker from Resident Evil 5, meaning it is not just a pallet swap. Of course, this makes the game much easier but I think that is the point. It's now more about how fast you can get through the game, as opposed to simply staying alive and making it to the end.
Jamie Ward · Jun 14, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Various factors accumulate to take the shine off Resident Evil 0 in comparison to the original game, but the Switch version showcases it at its best, and even though it doesn’t reach the heights of 1 or 2, it provides a shot of old-school Resident Evil for those who like that sort of thing. It looks great on Switch and the ability to play on-the-go helps alleviate some of the frustrations inherent to its old-fashioned systems. Overall, it’s very much more of the same, but if that’s what you’re after, Resident Evil 0 ticks the requisite boxes nicely.
Gavin Lane · May 23, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Resident Evil 0 is a product of Capcom experimenting with the series as it made the jump from fixed camera angles to a third-person behind the shoulder perspective. It’s certainly an interesting part of the franchise’s history, but if you’re not a huge fan of the series, it might just be worth skipping.
Jordan Boyd · May 21, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Resident Evil has a storied history and the series has evolved over the years to feature a wide range of gameplay styles. Revisiting the core survival horror gameplay with an added modern control scheme proves to be a wonderful pairing. Featuring two characters for a majority of the adventure adds some interesting puzzle design, but also takes away from the feeling of isolation and dread. Fortunately the frightening and off-putting atmosphere helps to counteract that. While it isn’t the best of the classics, Resident Evil Zero still manages to deliver an authentic survival horror experience.
Casey Gibson · May 21, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - At times then Resident Evil Zero is a frustrating experience, but persevere and you’ll find yourself immersed in a great old-school survival horror game. The atmosphere’s fantastic, and the character zapping system means you’re never stuck too long banging your head against a hard puzzle.
Joffy S · Feb 06, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Resident Evil Zero Remaster is exactly what the name implies. I had a blast returning to this entry, which is easily my least played in the series. It does enough different to help it stand on its own, even if some of those mechanics are archaic by today’s standards. I am done with the teasing though. Announce Resident Evil 7.
Ken McKown · Jan 21, 2016 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Resident Evil 0 HD Remaster includes more content than most HD remasters, but does little to fix design flaws from the original. You have to be a fan of the original for this to be worth your while. If so, then this is the definitive version of Resident Evil 0. If not, when there are better games to play if you need to get acquainted with the franchise.
Angelo M. D'Argenio · Jan 21, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - A methodical game which truly rewards deep thought, this survival horror classic stands tall in genre that's been streamlined a little too much in recent times. If you've never played 'Becca and Billy's escapade, then there's never been a better opportunity. And for those who have survived the nightmare before, the new modes and graphical upgrades mean that there's plenty of reason to climb aboard.
Marcello Apostolico · Jan 19, 2016 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Resident Evil 0 is just a really good classic RE game. It didn't set the standards for this style of game the way Resident Evil 1 did; it's not as ambitious or unblemished as Resident Evil 2. But it's far from the mess that history made it out to be. Whether you're a veteran who's played it before or a new fan who never tried out Resident Evil 0, it's good enough to deserve this second chance.
