- Redout II does advertise a multiplayer option (online only, no split-screen), but it doesn't seem to have a viable pool of players on the Xbox. Despite trying to connect to unranked multiplayer multiple times, I was never able to find a match. After searching for a few minutes, the game would return an error and disconnect from Xbox Live.
Adam Pavlacka · Aug 15, 2022 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Its blisteringly fast gameplay and brutal difficulty make it feel right at home with some of F-Zero’s more recent outings. The game demands precision, insanely fast reflexes, and the willingness to fail and try again. Redout 2 does this with just the right level of frustration, but also rewards and entices you back for more. It’s definitely not for newcomers to the F-Zero-like genre, as it’s easy to get frustrated and consistently lose races.
Jesse Taylor · Aug 10, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - The game has a rather complex control system with triggers controlling acceleration, brakes and boosts. The left stick turns — pretty standard — but the right stick handles strafing (your left to right movement) and pitching (your vertical movements). When combined with turning, strafing enables you to take larger corners, while pitching stops your bumper scraping against the ground in loops and also prevents your ship flying off the track on large drops.
Scott McCrae · Jul 23, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Redout 2 is actually quite good. It would have been the best aspect about the game as a whole, with nice designs and a phenomenal framerate on its PS5 version, but the glaring HDR glitch resulted in its visuals being its actual weakest link.
Leo Faria · Jul 20, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - The Redout series has already expanded beyond racing with last year’s Redout Space Assault, and I think there’s the possibility for it to go further, maybe even leaving the racing behind altogether.
Chris Harding · Jul 15, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - It's not a game that sticks with you, even if the racing is solid and filled with colorful graphics. Track descriptions and loading screens describe a future world that an algorithm could generate, and all the narrative hooks lead to environments that could boil down to the generic elemental surroundings of any given Mario Kart.
Alex Santa Maria · Jul 09, 2022 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Aside from the track descriptions, Redout 2 doesn’t have a story, characters or through-line, making the game a bit abstract. We’ve been spoiled by racers like Formula 1, where the races are given context and the racers have personality. The game’s AI is super aggressive and hellbent on knocking the player out of the race. Racing against other humans mitigates at least some of this problem.
Mark Steighner · Jun 29, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The game's AI is also very incompetently designed with incredibly slingshot-like rubberbanding that makes competitors look like absolute klutzes when you're falling behind them or like they have hyperspeed devices on the slightest advantage. Everything is locked behind stages while most of the unlockables are just cosmetics rather than any substantial upgrades.
Ule Lopez · Jun 28, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Brimming with so many highs, but also plenty of regrettable lows, Redout 2 is fast, frantic and fantastic at points, but frustratingly flawed enough to warrant caution in its current state.
Jordan Helm · Jun 27, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - While the core gameplay of Redout 2 is solid, the difficulty spikes will suck much of the fun out of the experience for some. And while steadily developing your ship helps players adjust to the increase in speed over the course of the career, it’s a strange and unfortunate choice to not offer a range of starting craft, tuned to multiple play styles. With a bit of work, then, Redout 2 could really stand out in the anti-gravity racer genre. But until then, it’s hard to recommend to all but the brave and the hardcore.
