- As a whole, this entire game just reeks of “we didn’t care about making it”. Redfall might not be the worst game released in 2023, but I don’t think I have played something more uninspired. It looks dated, its performance is disappointing, its plot is bland, the controls are glitchy, and the entire gameplay loop is the most generic and passion-devoid AAA schtick you could think of.
Leo Faria · Sep 24, 2023 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - The enemy AI, as is well documented, was awful. Enemies would run past you and not realize you were there and at no point present even a mild challenge. Sure, there are harder difficulties, but my faith that it would be anything more than a bunch of enemies with more health is non-existent.
Bill Lavoy · May 31, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - In the end, I found Redfall despite being laden with bugs, design issues, and questionable choices to have provided some entertainment and was at times more engaging than some of the recent titles I have been asked to review.
gareth · May 20, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Despite the several issues I had with graphical glitches and needing to restart on a couple of occasions, Redfall is an enjoyable experience. The story is somewhat of a slow build, told through its visual novel style approach, but kept me wanting to find out more about how Redfall came to be in such a predicament. But it is the combat and setting that provides for the most enjoyment.
William Thompson · May 15, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Even though we had quite a lot of laughs during multiplayer sessions, this had more to do with random bugs instead of actual good gameplay. Don’t get us wrong, the game does have a fairly decent foundation but it does nothing with said foundation. We did moderately enjoy playing through the game, collecting some very basic new weapons here and there, and seeing how the different characters evolved, but the game simply does not have that much content on offer.
Ibuki · May 11, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - As an immersive game, it falls short. And as a shooter, it’s too routine for me. There are better options out there, with more dynamic loot and discoverable environmental interactions. There are better boss fights than we see here. The open world doesn’t give me enough options, and too frequently, I found myself falling into a routine of running from waypoint to waypoint.
Eric Van Allen · May 08, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Redfall is a bad video game. It's one that feels both underbaked and unfinished, releasing in a visually poor state loaded with bugs, lackluster gameplay and just a boring, empty world. Its redeeming qualities, from the diverse cast of characters to the initial premise of a trapped town swarming with Vampires, feel so underutilized when put up against the game's faults.
Joseph Bradford · May 08, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The result is an empty-feeling game with several puzzling problems, like a lack of proper stealth takedowns, a tedious quest and waypoint system, and the inability to pause gameplay in single-player mode. Rampant technical issues hinder brighter moments, including frequent server crashes during multiplayer, inputs failing to work, broken animations, and numerous other bugs that make playing Redfall a frustrating experience.
Alex Van Aken · May 08, 2023 Reviewed on PC - With Redfall, Arkane strayed a bit too far from its roots and couldn't nail the landing. While the core gameplay is fun, and there are moments of brilliance that harken back to Arkane's glorious portfolio, most of the studio's strengths clearly do not mesh well with the open-world genre, as exemplified by the disappointing safe house missions. Additionally, the writing is very uneven, never succeeding in making the player care about any of the characters, and the co-op mode adds little substance.
Alessio Palumbo · May 07, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Pardon the pun, but playing Redfall really sucked the life out of me. It's a game that so desperately feels like it wants to be more than what it is, which is understandable. It's dreadfully dull, buggy, frustrating, and feels shackled to a genre that it doesn't really want to be part of.
