  • Maybe I nitpicked Definitive Edition into oblivion, but there isn't a justification for such a wonky product that's the latest in a long line of ports.

  • Lack of new content notwithstanding, Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition is, at least for this moment in time, one of the best 2D platformers on the Switch. The level design and varied gameplay are top notch, the graphics and music are beautiful and I’m really amazed by just how much there is to unlock and accomplish in the game -- we’re talking dozens of hours of content.

  • There’s an incredible amount of content stuffed into this package, and even though it may not be a revolutionary upgrade, the Switch version feels like the perfect platform for Rayman Legends.

  • Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition is a tough game to review. On the one hand, it’s still a fantastically creative platformer with plenty of content to offer and an easy recommendation for anyone yet to experience this adventure. On the other, though it’s yet another version of a game we’ve seen plenty of times already with little to offer returning players especially at its higher price point.

  • Unless Nintendo decides to release a Mario or Donkey Kong title on the PlayStation 4, it’s going to take something special to unsettle Rayman Legends’ current command of the next-gen console’s platforming crown. ...If you also take into account the discounted price point, massive amount of variety, and local multiplayer, then it’s impossible not to recommend this dream package to anyone with even a passing interest in the side-scrolling genre.

A gimmick, yes, but a satisfying one. Remote Play might just seal the deal for those with a PS Vita, but otherwise everything's the same as it was before. ...Rayman Legends remains a mighty fine platformer whichever hardware you play it on. Occasionally ramshackle but frequently entertaining and consistently dazzling to look at, it's a great game, but if you already own it - and you've still got your old console to play it on, of course - there's little reason to double-dip.

  • Legends supports local four-player co-op, which is great albeit a little chaotic when you're trying to distinguish who's who. Friends can hop in at any time and play the entire game alongside you. There's also a fun two versus two football minigame where you attempt to punch and kick a novelty-sized ball into your opponent's goal, and stop your friends from doing the same to you by beating the tar out of them. With a crowd of friends around your PC, it's stupidly entertaining.

  • Rayman Legends is a must play title for any Wii U owner. From my understanding the experience is a great one on any console, but some of the more interactive sections have been replaced with button prompts on other consoles. The game may have been delayed for launch on other consoles, but at its core Rayman Legends was always a Wii U title and it shows in execution. This game deserves to be played by every Wii U owner, because it was crafted specifically with you in mind.

  • I can honestly say that Rayman Legends is the most fun I’ve had platforming in a very long time. The game’s impossible to put down gameplay really does give the Big N and their Mario goodness a quality ‘run for its money’. If you’re looking for something to play that requires no more than a desire to have fun then you can’t afford to pass this one up.

  • Rayman Legends is a great game that you will be hard pressed not to like. With easy controls, great graphics, and some of the best level design out there – Rayman Legends deserves to be played. Although it’s missing a few levels from the other versions (whichhave been confirmed as coming later), it’s still one of the best versions to get. If they added online multiplayer (infrastructure mode), they could really bring it to the next level – but any fan of the Rayman series should grab this one as they shouldn’t be disappointed.

About the game

Rayman, Globox and the Teensies have been sleeping for a century. During that time, the Bubble Dreamer's nightmares grew in strength and numbers, and so has the Magician (who has survived the explosion in Rayman Origins) who by this time has split into 5 "Dark Teensies". Rayman and friends are awakened by their friend Murfy who tells them about the bad news, and tells them that the 10 princesses of the land (including Barbara) and the Teensies have been captured by the nightmares and the Dark Teensies. Rayman, Globox, the Teensies, and Murfy set out to defeat these new threats.
