- In essence, Radiation Island is a zombie-infested survival adventure game on a budget. It is yet another mobile game that has washed ashore on Nintendo Switch and one that fails to ever become a memorable experience on the portable home console. It has clear potential but ends up feeling incomplete, in needing more content to help keep the player both engaged and motivated.
Alex Seedhouse · Mar 18, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Radiation Island is a good survival horror premise that sadly never delivers. We are unsure if the game will continue to see future support and updates to better streamline the entire experience, possibly leaving it in this limbo state on Switch forever and as such our final score reflects the game’s current state. It's a shame Atypical Games decided to bring this game to Switch before other games in its catalogue as it sets a dangerous precedent on the eShop.
Gonçalo Lopes · Feb 28, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - There's so much game here that the price is absolutely criminal – and there's replay value to be had in not just the multiplayer, but with a hardcore survival mode where one death means game over. I appreciate the exploration mode as well – there's such great sights to see here, that people who don't want to worry about surviving and just want to check everything out deserve to have an avenue to do so. ...It's a massive, and immensely enjoyable experience.
Carter Dotson · Feb 10, 2015 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Radiation Island is a game that may require hours of dedication, but considering it’s a survival adventure that hits almost every creative note, that shouldn’t be a problem.
Greg Srisavasdi · Feb 03, 2015 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - While Radiation Island doesn't offer the raw fun and imagination of Minecraft, it's still a good time if you're the kind of person that likes pitting yourself against the wild (from the comfort of your couch, preferably with a bowl of hot soup by your side). Just watch your battery power. This game gobbles it up like a zombie scarfing a fresh kill.
Nadia Oxford · Feb 03, 2015 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - With an engaging story, great visuals, and a user-friendly mindset, Radiation Island is certainly a game that those intrigued by the genre – veterans or not – should check out.
Tom Christiansen · Feb 03, 2015 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - From a gameplay standpoint, despite some rough edges on its crafting systems, Radiation Island delivers a truly entertaining gameplay loop within the survival genre. However, even with its ambitiously huge environments, the game is overshadowed by its shallow technical aspects.
Jhonatan Carneiro · Mar 30, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Originally released as a game for iOS devices, Radiation Island makes sense on the Nintendo Switch, especially in portable mode. It looks great and functions well. The controls are a bit clunky when not handheld, but not significantly; I enjoyed playing it docked and while out and about. This isn’t a game that compels me to play for hours on end. However, it provides ample entertainment, and is one I can easily come back to for some good-old-fashioned island adventuring (plus zombies).
Julia Gomez · Mar 08, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Radiation Island is an intriguingly ambitious survival game, and for the scope of its vision alone it deserves a good deal of praise. It might not be the perfect fit for mobile, and there might be a few niggles here and there that keep it from greatness, but there's something impressive and compelling about it all the same.
Harry Slater · Feb 04, 2015 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - I personally had no issues or gripes with the game running on an iPad Air 1, gameplay is smooth and there us plenty of it to go around. I really had hoped, however, for another slice of narrative aside from the Tesla Towers because after these are conquered, there is little to do than explore. But hey, that’s what DLC is for right? Nevertheless, be sure to pick this up for an absolute bargain price with a ton of game time sure to put even the most dedicated gamers through their paces!
