- Overall, if you’re after a classic platformer that harkens back to the good old days of platforming past, then Pumpkin Jack is certain to bring you some joy. The story may not be one I, or anyone else, will be telling their children about (as I did with Crash Bandicoot as if it were a true story) but it’s not a totally inept offering either, and if you simply want something that can return that nostalgic charm, and some Halloween festivities, then there are many worse options you could choose than a shot with Pumpkin Jack.
Carlos Santuana · Nov 06, 2021 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Pumpkin Jack isn't going to blow your mind here in 2021, but if you're on the market for a few hours of Halloween fun, you can't really go wrong. A game that knows exactly what it wants to be, and delivers with confidence.
Robert Ramsey · Oct 30, 2021 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Pumpkin Jack is a fun adventure game for young and old. The mechanics prove to be straightforward, the atmosphere is on point, and the soundtrack is very appealing. We did miss a bit of voice acting, and some polishing in the combat mechanics, but overall, this game made us believe we were once again in the golden age of 3D platforming games. We do hope this single developer gets a bit more funds for a possible sequel, as we would love to go on another adventure with Jack.
Ibuki · Oct 25, 2021 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Pumpkin Jack is a retro-inspired platformer that features a great sense of humor, creative boss fights, a variety of levels, a few interesting puzzles, and some inspired on-rails sections. While the combat can border on frustrating and the game can be completed in 4 or 5 hours, there is still a lot to love – especially if you are a fan of PS2 era platformers.
Richard Allen · Oct 25, 2021 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Great thing about Pumpkin Jack is the Boss Fights which were fun and challenging. So let’s talk about the bad things now, which include the frame rates; just like I mentioned previously, there are a lot of frame rate drops during saves and autosave, which might cause you to fall during platforming.
Ankit Gaba · Sep 20, 2021 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Pumpkin Jack is a superb game, but its flaws come baring teeth once the glass shatters and you start to notice them. The combat is fun and rewarding, the writing and story are fantastic, but there are certain parts of the game that fall short.
Ben Lombardo · Feb 28, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Pumpkin Jack is an unspectacular 3D action platformer, but considering it’s largely the work of just one man, it’s quite an achievement. There’s a nice variety of gameplay on offer, some solid visuals, and an enjoyable soundtrack. And even though some gameplay elements outstay their welcome, they at least offer a reprieve from the annoying combat.
Kim Snaith · Feb 23, 2021 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - In the end, Pumpkin Jack is a game that is flawed but still enjoyable. The platforming is solid if you don't mind the unsteady camera and loads of objects blurring your view. The sections where you can only control your head and the chase sequences add some variety to the adventure, but they feel overused. The combat is basic enough to get the job done.
Cody Medellin · Jan 15, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Playing through Pumpkin Jack definitely took me back to the days of the original Xbox, PlayStation 2 and GameCube and the plethora of action-adventure games like this that populated those consoles. What that means though is while Pumpkin Jack can be an enjoyable nostalgic trip at times, it also suffers from the same problems those games were guilty of back then namely their simplicity and uneven quality.
Ryan Janes · Dec 06, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Pumpkin Jack is a great looking game, a great playing game, and a well written game. It should not be skipped in the slightest. The Halloween aesthetic may seem out of season now, but don’t let it fool you, this game is enjoyable at any time; the minions of hell rising up to destroy humanity truly is a timeless tale. The end credits show the development and love Nicolas poured into this game, and all of that can be found in the final product. I really hope this isn’t the last we see of Jack.
