- Project Winter is a game I genuinely feel could be great with the right multiplayer lobby. The concept is solid, and you can clearly see how the game is supposed to work. Yet my enjoyment with the game was ruined by the lobbies I was put in and the awful players I had to deal with.

That means you can overhear someone getting brutally murdered, or you can cry for help with no one around to save you. It's really immersive and fun, and... well, Switch and voice chat don't have a great history, do they? Sure, you can use headphones with an in-built microphone, but if you don't have the right headset, it's a lonely, quiet place, as you listen to the banter of the people around you, able only to type — and typing is slow, and will get you killed.

Regardless of my tempered enthusiasm from Day One DLC and some polish concerns, Project Winter is a well-devised game that can lead to moments of intense distrust and cooperation few online games can equal.

Its blend of survival and social deception is executed largely well, and though its various mechanics can often pile on top of each other to overwhelm the player, when all of them are working in harmony, it's hard not to have fun.

The in-game comms system has a quite different sound design than we are used to these days, and hearing your companions voices fade out as the distance between you grows can induce some mild panic. The game has plenty of depth and detail to make it far more than a one-dimensional experience and is all about team work and communication.

It’s rare to encounter any bugs, unfair mechanics, or anything else that is capable of ruining the experience, and really the only time it doesn’t prove to be enjoyable is when you are placed in a lobby full of people that refuse to play as the game is intended.
