- Prison Architect was a lot more fun than I thought it would be and I really liked the prison setting. I haven’t played many games that are this silly and serious at the same time so the concept kept me interested and the variety is what kept me coming back. I can’t really justify the $30 price tag, I think it would be more reasonable at $20, but that’s just me. Maybe you’ll get lucky and catch a sale soon.
Kaelyn Daugherty · Oct 29, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - It should be noted that the Switch version is meant to also include an Escape Mode where you control an inmate trying to find their way out. For the purposes of this review, we haven’t been able to check it out. Despite that omission, it’s not hard to pour a bunch of time into Prison Architect, and I am happy to recommend it to anyone looking for a sim game to play on their couch.
Joel A. DeWitte · Oct 09, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Prison Architect is a blast. It offers an interesting thematic take on a bizarre sub genre of simulations, and while it retains the general complexity and what made that other game so good, it strips away all the fat, keeps it laser focused, and wraps it all up in a lovely usable user interface. It can be a hard knock life, and even with the tutorials you will still learn best by diving in and exploring, but Prison Architect is well worth the time investment required.
Joel Peterson · Oct 06, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - With all manner of pre-designed and freeform modes - and a haul of DLC included as standard - the last thing you’ll be doing with Prison Architect: Nintendo Switch Edition is hard time. The sheer amount of interconnected systems you need to track and maintain are as vast as they are intricate, but learn to spin its penal plates and you’ll have one of the deepest - and most rewarding - simulation games ever made at your fingertips. Dom Reseigh-Lincoln · Aug 24, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Prison Architect allows for freedom and creativity with its deep simulation systems and the multitude of player options. Players may become surprisingly invested in their prison and in their prisoners, something that can only be achieved by letting them mess with every small detail.
Wyatt Daniels · Jul 14, 2017 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Overall, Prison Architect is a pretty deep simulation and management game that offers ton of things to do and ways to play. Don't let its cartoony looks deceive you; this is a pretty hardcore and demanding game. If you like classic PC management games, you're going to love Prison Architect. If you don't care to dive deep into a game and are simply looking for a light game to pass the time, Prison Architect might not be for you.
Tasos Lazarides · Jun 20, 2017 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - It's hard to look at Prison Architect and not be impressed by it. Even with some of its techical issues, it's one of the most fully-featured management sims I've ever played. It's a game that somehow creates fun in an extremely dour and complex setting, all while handling its sensitive subject matter with remarkable grace.
Campbell Bird · Jun 05, 2017 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Prison Architect: Mobile is an amazing game in its current state, but unfortunately there are a couple of bugs skittering around. There were several times where the UI would just “stick” and we wouldn’t be able to do anything, effectively soft-locking the game. The game seems also slightly unstable, as we encountered a couple of crashes. That being said, Prison Architect: Mobile is a fascinating and thoroughly enjoyable game.
Jeremy · Jun 03, 2017 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Prison Architect is a full-on sim that will eat your time. If you fancy a dark look inside the running of a prison, look no further.
Tom Orry · Jul 05, 2016 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - It demonstrates that an engaging story, a massive amount of content and endless replayability is more important than the bare bones idea of simulation and construction. Prison Architect went beyond the boundaries of the simulation genre, proving that a simulation game can be so much more than construction and design. With the additional content released with the console version, Prison Architect is better than ever!
