- POOLS is an impressively immersive and harrowing trudge through waters that threaten to drown you in its high fidelity, unsettling take on the limenal space horror genre.
James Wood · May 24, 2024 Reviewed on PCRead full review - A short but impressively realised walking simulator that will unnervingly delight many and disappoint some, POOLS is a purely experiential liminal piece of media. Like all of its halls and corridors, you may wonder where the end goal is, or where the purpose lies. But that’s precisely the purpose of the liminal – to focus on emotion and feeling, even if that’s slightly undermined by its structural design.
Miles Thompson · May 21, 2024 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Few games let you experience the true horrors of an empty, slightly dilapidated council swimming pool, and for that, Pools must be commended. Much like those public swimming baths, it was rare that anything bad would happen, padding about those echoey chambers of tile and chlorine in the small hours. But the unsettling feeling that something might, that vague threat hanging in the air and sloshing against the walls, was always present. And anchored somewhere between walking simulator and urbex video, the trend of internet idiots poking round abandoned structures, Pools is compelling.
