  • Pokémon Go is unlike anything else I've ever played, and for that reason alone I implore you to play it. I'm not sure it will keep the current momentum, but for now it feels really good.

  • At its core, Pokémon GO is one of the first popular AR games and another Wii-like success for Nintendo, but it’s riddled with bugs and comes up short on some of the biggest tenants of the Pokémon franchise. Pokémon GO pushes people to go outside, explore their town and interact with others, and that’s what gives it its potential.

  • Pokémon Go is slim on the gameplay and the app itself has severe issues that need to be fixed, but the experience of getting out there and playing the game is great. Pokémon Go and the general love of Pokémon is giving people a chance to connect with each other and have fun. It has issues, but Pokémon Go is still worth the hunt.

  • All that said, Pokémon Go is fun. It’s just a beginning, but I can’t put it down. It’s free, and what you can spend money on can also be earned in the game easily. If you’re into this sort of thing, if hunting down fake digital monsters in the real world with friends or alone sounds fun, then try it. You may be disappointed in the combat, but the real world adventures are worth the data plan overages.

  • Since the game is based so strongly in real-world interactions, it's hard to tell where Pokémon Go heads from here. If Niantic keeps it frequently updated with new features and added depth, there's potential for it to be a game we're still talking about years down the road. Or it could end up as a passing fad, a brush fire craze that the whole gaming world is talking about for a few weeks and then is forgotten.

  • I don’t particularly like Pokemon Go. Nope, don’t like it. I’m not even sure I “get” it. I am, however, playing it like so many other people. There’s a compulsion to play, and it’s not actually a compelling game. Thus we return to the notion of Pokemon Go‘s undeniable success.

  • Pokemon GO may be a hugely mediocre game. It is, however, an incredible human experience, and at the heart of it all, that more than anything else defines it, and the franchise, that it is based on.

  • Pokémon Go is marathon, not a sprint: It’s something that I’m legitimately worried about spending too much time with while yet also harboring concerns about its longevity. But even lacking functions and with tons of problems, Go has still managed to entice players around the globe to catch ’em all … outside the comforts of their homes.

  • This location-based Pokémon game does the bare minimum in the Pokémon and game departments, but somehow creates some appeal nonetheless.

  • So we've got a game that I don't enjoy from any angle (which sucks), but it's also dominating the cultural conversation right now (which is great). I'm torn on this one, honestly! See, I don't recommend Pokémon Go the video game. But I can't get enough of Pokémon Go the cultural artifact. It's a Videodrome-esque obsession, and I'm very disappointed in how excited I am to play my part. Long live the new flesh.
