- In the end, it is a slick-looking, great-sounding little game that is never overly offensive with its issues, but still has a decent amount of them. The gameplay revolves around a simple mechanic that players will see the majority of before getting halfway through it, but it was never something that I didn’t like playing.
Drew Leachman · Jul 07, 2021 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - A good, but not great, new IP, Poison Control skillfully harnesses NIS’s abilities to present a visually-striking, musically-engaging world with unique gameplay concepts. The biggest issue is the gameplay itself doesn’t feel as polished as it should be. The third-person shooter gameplay is functional, but the execution leaves something to be desired.
Marcus Estrada · Apr 27, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - When it comes down to it, Poison Control fails to do anything interesting in any manner. There's nothing about the game that is outright broken, but there is just no substance to anything at all. A forgettable nothing story, forgettable gameplay, tedious maps, all lead to an experience that is an easy skip.
Adam Vitale · Apr 26, 2021 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - The game is repetitive, and feels like it overstays its welcome despite not being particularly long. And yet, there are still plenty of moments that earned chuckles and even laughter. I still felt the urge to fully explore every inch of the Hells.
James Jones · Apr 26, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Although the fun in traversing through Belles’ Hells and beating a variety of Kleshas will keep you engrossed in the game, it will start feeling a bit repetitive after a while. It lacks engagement in some areas where I expected a bit more. This unique storyline of various girls and your precious bond with your soulmate Ms. Poisonette put this game ahead of certain RPGs.
Vivek Singh · Apr 24, 2021 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Poison Control could have been better. The controls weren’t polished enough, and the levels—despite boasting some amazing aesthetics—were fairly same-y. But that doesn’t mean that Poison Control is a bad game. In fact, I really liked it—and I think that a lot of pre-existing NIS fans will, too. If you’re looking for games based on mechanical execution alone, Poison Control might not be your thing.
Kenny McKee · Apr 23, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Poison Control is a 3rd person shooting anime-style game by Nippon Ichi Software. It’s available on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. Despite the reputation of anime pacing, it’s easy to pick up and play for short sessions when you’re not bogged down with dialogue scenes. The action is nice, but the exploration is lacking. Still, if this has piqued your interest, you could still have a hell of a time.
Will Quick · Apr 20, 2021 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - To put it frankly, these characters -and this story- deserved better. The core gameplay loop is fun for the first few levels but quickly devolves into a repetitive and tedious affair. The well-rounded cast and the intriguing -albeit predictable- plot don’t offer enough to salvage the game. Poison Control isn’t a bad game per se, but the gameplay element is so underwhelming that we can’t call it anything but mediocre at best.
SebastiaanRaats · Apr 14, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Poison Control's story is cliché-filled but fun, and the tongue-in-cheek dialogue carries the game far further than its gameplay could manage alone. The writing can only make up for shallow game mechanics to a point, though, and ultimately shallow gameplay is what lets this game down. Visual novel fans will likely find more to enjoy here, but there's simply not enough gameplay depth or variety for fans of shooters.
Trent Cannon · Apr 13, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Poison Control will not be to everybody’s tastes, but its strange mix of combat and poison neutralization antics does at least make it unique. Also, while its gameplay does suffer due to repetition, the somewhat bite-sized nature of its dungeons means it can be offset by playing little but often. Ultimately, no element of Poison Control particularly stands out as impressive, but it also does little to actively put players off getting a controller in their hands and cleansing a hell or two.
