Cristian Ciuraneta · Sep 27, 2024 Reviewed onRead full review - Pepper Grinder successfully combines traditional platforming with a refreshingly original gameplay mechanic that breathes new life into a very tired genre.
Darren Edwards · Aug 28, 2024 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Pepper Grinder is a short but near-flawless 2D platformer that’s a thrill ride from start to finish. From the sparkling pixel art visuals to its ingenious drilling gameplay, the game is a must-play for any platforming fan.
Joshua Thompson · Aug 16, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Pepper Grinder is a great game, I just deeply hated the experience of playing it on Xbox. On PC, it felt great. I’ve heard very good things about it on Switch. Your experience might vary, you might like the extra grinding frustration of the Xbox experience. Whether you play it or not, though, you should seek out the soundtrack and listen to it, and then look at all of the art, because it is an experience to be savoured.
Alice Clarke · Aug 07, 2024 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Pepper Grinder is short, fun, and nails what it’s going for. It’s fun solo but if you can convince a few curious friends the leaderboard system could give you way more than four hours of a good time.
Jesse Norris · Aug 06, 2024 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Though the in-game shop feels poorly realised and it sometimes veers away from what it does best, Pepper Grinder nonetheless remains a resolutely well made, roundly attractive and frantically satisfying platformer that basically turns you into a terrifyingly militant dolphin obsessed with high speed loot and murder. And, well, who has never wanted to be one of those before?
John-Paul Jones · Aug 06, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Pepper Grinder's look is also really sprightly (pun intended): its pixel art is simple and well-executed, with occasionally characterful animations, and the whole thing's backed by a funky soundtrack. This might not be the most substantial of platformers, but it's a spirited entry.
Max Freeman-Mills · Aug 06, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Pepper Grinder is an innovative platformer that doubles down on its unique gameplay mechanic. Rather than just sticking with the premise, it evolves and adds new ideas to make levels distinct. Although there’s a difficulty spike with bosses and the controls take a little to get used to, the short adventure is a thrill. For fans of platformers looking for something that pushes the genre in a novel direction, Pepper Grinder is a treasure worth unearthing.
Jaz Sagoo · Aug 06, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Pepper Grinder's unique drilling mechanic and sheer variety of levels do well to distract from its paper-thin length. Players looking for a different type of platformer that is one-and-done outside of crunching for better times should enjoy this brisk grind.
BEN SHEENE · Aug 06, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Pepper Grinder is a short little platformer that delivers a satisfying gameplay concept, but it can take time to grasp the full mechanics due to the fast speed and slight unpredictability of where Pepper will move during and after the drilling process. The slower speed option can help alleviate the issues, but those that take the time to master it will be rewarded with a fast-paced adventure with plenty of secrets to discover. Speedrunners will get a lot of purchase out of this one, but it isn't without its problems when dealing with frustrating combat and bosses. Thankfully, the short length balances things out, ensuring Pepper Grinder ends before it gets too tedious.
