- A faltering sequel that borrows even more liberally from well-worn horror tropes than its predecessor, Outlast 2 ends up a middling entry despite its high production values and some shining moments of found footage fright.
Kevin Lynn · Oct 23, 2019 Reviewed onRead full review - Outlast 2 has all the makings of a great entry in the survival horror genre, but falls short, because of the story and auto save functionality. I had a good enough time with the inventory management and main plot, but the plot within the school felt like filler. This is a fun expansion for those who are looking for more Outlast, but to those who are curious, just play the original.
Dawson Helton · Apr 18, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Outlast 2 is a fantastic technical achievement on the Nintendo Switch with a good story and a setting that is impressively and increasingly atmospheric. It isn’t for everybody though, as some of the stealth mechanics used will grow increasingly tiresome for some. As such it isn’t perfect but it improves upon a lot of things that Outlast did wrong and is a better game overall than that title. If you’re a horror fan then it’s a must play, it is as simple as that. It is one of, if not the best horror game currently available on the Switch. Get your headphones at the ready.
Jamie Ward · Apr 08, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - So, overall then, Outlast 2 on Nintendo Switch is pretty amazing. It looks almost as good as its console and PC counterparts, runs very well despite not being 60 frames-per-second, and the new Story Mode difficulty gives you more room to explore. It offers the full fat Outlast 2 experience with less annoyances, and in my book that makes it a brilliant port. If you're into horror and own a Nintendo Switch, do yourself a favour and pick it up ASAP. You won't regret it.
Richard Seagrave · Apr 03, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Outlast 2 does little to elevate it beyond the original Outlast. What results is a well put together, but ultimately predictable, and even generic horror experience. At times the story stumbles into masterpiece territory, but then quickly course corrects back into a generic evil cult plotline. Outlast 2’s highs are monolithic, but it spends the majority of its time thoroughly rooted in being just pretty good.
John Rairdin · Mar 27, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Outlast 2 ramps up the tension and the technical achievement from the original, with one of the most stunningly atmospheric game worlds around. The level design has expanded along with your stealth options, creating a handful of truly memorable moments. It definitely isn't for everyone, though.
Jon Mundy · Mar 27, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Outlast 2 was immensely satisfying for the first two hours of play. That is until I realized that I’ve done everything I can do. The gameplay never introduced anything new and exciting, and the story just wasn’t good enough to keep me entertained. Don’t even get me started on the cryptic ending! If you want me to do the same thing repeatedly, the story has to drive me, and Outlast 2’s story just didn’t motivate me. The game is gorgeous and sounds amazing, but there is no meat on the bone. 10 hours of running and hiding is not fun at all.
Mike Vito · May 04, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Outlast 2 made me jump and cower more than any other game or movie has in the past year. If Red Barrels’ main goal was to make me want to hug my loved ones the moment the credits rolled then they succeeded with flying colors. Outlast 2 is a delightfully nerve-racking horror experience that serves up some of the most horrific and unsettling images you’ll likely see in a video game in 2017. Please enjoy.
Rory Wood · May 02, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - With a compelling story, strong graphics, and some genuine scares, Outlast 2 is one of the better horror games to come around in recent years. Some aspects of its gameplay may fall short and the first half of the game is a bit of a bore, but overall, it’s an experience worth having, especially for fans of the genre.
Dalton Cooper · Apr 28, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Even though I didn’t use it all that much the more I progressed through the game, I could see how it might be useful in a harder difficulty run as I played on normal mode. Without redefining the foundations of the original, Outlast 2 weaves an intriguing tale- paced expertly through environments that breed a sense of tension and paranoia only the best in the genre can muster.

About the game
Trailers & Screenshots:
No conflict is ever black and white. But once the dust has settled, the victors get to decide who was right and who was wrong. Who is good and who is evil. Human nature pushes us to extremes of violence and depravity, which we then justify by divine inspiration and a promise of paradise to come. Horror rises from desperation and blind faith. OUTLAST 2 will test your faith, pushing players to a place where going mad is the only sane thing to do.
