  • Out There: Ω Edition is a singleplayer Sci-fi RPG / adventure game with a procedurally generated hostile universe and both roguelike and exploration elements mixed in.

  • In the end, I find Out There: Omega is totally worth the price. It satisfies that part of me that wants to see more games like FTL, even if I must admit I don’t hold it in quite as high regard as that revered title. It’s a worthy IP that I hope to see more of in the future. Something fun and different for patient gamers or fans of FTL. A worthy and unique title with just a couple flaws.

  • Out There is a beautiful, immersive space exploration game that can keep you occupied for hours on end. The amazing artwork, mood-setting music, and naration of the game really make it seem like you are with him, out there, all alone and trying to get home. The more I played it, the more enticed I was by it, and the more I wanted to play it. The developer has done a really nice job here.

  • Many repeated playthroughs of Out There allow for a marginally higher survival rate, but the arbitrary chance for failure on an otherwise perfect run can be infuriating. If that indiscriminate failure is part of what you enjoy in roguelikes, Out There is a fascinating attempt to combine strategy with storytelling, and a worthy distraction for science-fiction enthusiasts.

  • Out There is a game I don’t want to give away by saying too much about, and on paper, it’s perhaps not the most exciting game. But the experience of it, of learning how to survive and mastering the methods of doing so, and discovering the unknown, not knowing what is around the next corner, that’s something truly special.

  • Taking all the best parts of any space-faring simulation ever made, Out There ups the ante by throwing in a generous splash of humanity and addictively challenging gameplay.

  • There’s a lot to love in Out There. My biggest gripe is the lack of a quickstart button, which means you have to watch a brief cinematic every time you start a new game. Mobile games and roguelikes are designed to be started over and over again, so this seems like a real oversight. There is a lot to appreciate in this melancholy space adventure, and even when you die, you’ll still have a blast.

  • It’s not an easy game, and luck isn’t always on your side. Nor is it flashy; most of the action takes place in text boxes and resource menus. But if you meet the game halfway, you’ll probably forget you ever wanted to play flashy, action-packed games, at least for a while. Out There is something special.

  • How long you'll stick with it will depend on your patience for roguelikes; the challenge factor will keep you coming back for at least a few attempts, though, and its procedurally generated nature means every playthrough is at least a little different from the last. A sprawling, easy to play but surprisingly deep jaunt through the stars -- and one with a beautifully crafted atmosphere sure to keep you coming back for more.

  • It works because Out There gets the threat of death right. I can't count the times I've weighed the risk of stopping at a gas giant, wondering if this will be the one that flares and takes out my hull and if I'll even be able to gather enough fuel to make it worth while.

About the game

You are an astronaut awaking from cryonics not in the solar system, but... out there... in a far and unknown place of the galaxy. In Out There, you will have to survive, tinkering your ship with what you can gather drifting in the void, and spot garden planets to refill your oxygen supply.
