- While the Nintendo Switch has seen its fair share of Metroidvania titles over its four-year run, Ori and the Will of the Wisps stands strong as one of its best. While the original was already a memorable adventure, Ori and the Will of the Wisps manages to make improvements whilst dazzling with a visual look that somehow manages to be even more eye-catching than before.
Ryan Janes · Mar 25, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Will of the Wisps was always an impressive visual showpiece, despite the technical flaws that initially held it back. It's more straightforward, combat-heavy flow may still put off die-hard fans of the original Ori, but there's that's a small nitpick for a game that retains its identity while finding a new flow.
Mike Epstein · Nov 18, 2020 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - I will say that the best way to play this would still be on a PC or Xbox One, as you'll get a better graphical and technical performance. But, most of us Switch owners know that there's usually some kind of price to pay for the opportunity to take games wherever we want on a handheld system. In this case, very little was sacrificed.
Jamie Latour · Oct 22, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Ori and the Will of the Wisps manages to be more than just a plain old sequel. It changes just enough and introduces great new mechanics and characters to truly feel like a completely separate game while being unmistakably Ori at the core. More importantly, it runs perfectly well on the Switch with only minor visual adjustments. Will of the Wisps stands as tall as its predecessor as a beautiful action-platformer that everyone should try.
Andreas Salmen · Oct 14, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Ori and the Will of the Wisp is a beautiful game in every respect. It is gorgeous to look at, with both design and animation executed with stunning precision. The gameplay is fast and addictive. Most of all, though, the narrative is touching and absorbing in equal measure, drawing you into a wonderful fantasy world that you can’t help but ache to see survive.
Kirstie Summers · Oct 09, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Finally, let’s not forget that all of this great gameplay, all these beautiful visuals and music have been packed into the diminutive platform of the Nintendo Switch. It’s an amazing achievement, and the developers deserve credit for delivering a faithful rendering of this full game in handheld mode. In fact, in some ways, you even get a better version than was originally released on the Xbox One in March, because it’s had its lagging and other bugs ironed out.
Patrick Anderson · Oct 02, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - The combat has plenty of options for all sorts of playstyles and puzzles make you feel clever for solving them. For players young or old, veterans or newcomers and hardcore or casual players, this game is enjoyable for everyone to play and to watch. There are a few titles on the Nintendo Switch that I’d consider as must-haves, but I am happy to add Ori and the Will of the Wisps to that list.
Willem Hilhorst · Sep 28, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Overall though, Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a must-buy for anyone even the slightest bit interested, and we're confident that the stability problems can be patched in the future. This is a supremely enjoyable platform adventure which everyone should experience.
Brett Posner-Ferdman · Sep 23, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Ori and the Will of the Wisps doesn’t try to recreate the magic that made the first game so special, instead it embraces it. With its absorbing soundtrack, meticulously crafted world, and all-around gameplay improvements, Moon Studios has miraculously given us a worthy sequel to the marvelous series.
Jonathan Paris · Apr 21, 2020 Reviewed on PC, XB1 - Ori and the Will of the Wisps serves up a balanced meal of combat and platforming that captured me immediately. I'm not a big fan of the first game, but Ori's weapon wheel and slick maneuverability turns Will of the Wisps into an irresistible ballet. Unfortunately, performance problems on the Xbox One S in particular bring down a game that is otherwise almost perfect.
