  • In the end, Unlimited World Red is most certainly a strange game – and it probably didn’t help that I didn’t really know what was going on a lot of the time. That said, I did find myself enjoying it when I played, and I certainly was disappointed when the story was over.

  • Unlimited World Red is a good example of a licensed game done well. If you’re a One Piece fan, you’ll be in high-seas heaven; the gang’s all here, they look and sound great, and the gameplay — while it has its issues — provides a solid foundation for the adventure.

  • In the end One Piece: Unlimited World Red is a step in the right direction for the series but still has its faults. Though its gameplay can be repetitive at times there is fun to be had in the Coliseum mode and the games graphics are drop dead gorgeous. However, the price of admission is way too high for this digital only release. I would wait to set sail until the title drops in price.

  • The inclusion of local co-op is definitely a plus while the absence of online multiplayer is a letdown. Although the choice of a brand new story is an absolute treat for fans, it might be slightly confusing if you don’t have prior knowledge of Manga/Anime. At the end of the day, One Piece: Unlimited World Red packs more good elements than bad ones and should be on your mind if you’re a fan of One Piece.

Yes, the camera is a wild animal that sometimes refuses to be tamed and the simplistic combat can get slightly boring at times, but the amount of different content mixed with tons of different characters makes it an interesting game to try out, even for non-One Piece fans. It’s just a decent game overall.

One Piece Unlimited World Red offers simple but refined brawler play, and boasts attractive anime-styled scenery throughout, though it still eventually runs out of tricks to conceal the fact that it’s a repetitive beat-em-up. The only thing close to a puzzle to be found is the tricky goals to be met in tougher side-quests, and those still require the same combat and exploration skills. But with a mix of varied characters, as well as three difficulty options and a slew of side-missions and Battle Coliseum challenges, Unlimited World Red is not short on ways to extend your play.

  • One Piece: Unlimited World Red is a good yet unspectacular game. There is a lot of content here between the story and coliseum mode, with a good 30+ hours of things to keep you busy. Yet, the content isn’t overly impressive and things like bug catching, fishing, and farming just feel forced and not fully thought out. The combat is deceptively deep with good AI teammates and unique combat moves, but also shallow in it’s utter lack of difficulty.

  • One Piece Unlimited World Red is a very standard action game that won't excite masters of the genre, but it has more than enough charm to make up for its simplicity. It also certainly helps that it's an original story, so hardcore fans of the manga or show will want to get in on Red even at a discount just to experience more Straw Hat goodness.

  • Manga game adaptations are frequent--and frequently disappointing--but One Piece Unlimited World Red surprised me by actually being fun to play. The combat is a blast, even if it takes place in unremarkable locations. Battle Coliseum is a great diversion, and although you can't take on your friends, you can still experience the series' latest events with a variety of unique fighters. This all comes together in a package that will delight fans of the manga

  • Some may be a little disappointed that Unlimited World Red makes little effort to explain the setting or the characters to the uninitiated, but perhaps that’s besides the point – the target audience for this game is already familiar with the series’ lore, and it’s those that will take the most from this game. That’s not to say players who are not versed in the anime or manga will be unable to enjoy the game; on the contrary, there’s an energetic, lighthearted brawler to be enjoyed here, and despite some control issues and repetitive segments it’s a decent romp through Eiichiro Oda’s world.
