- A 2D firefighting game, Nuclear Blaze will draw you in with its mysterious premise and then keep you hooked with its engaging puzzle-platforming gameplay. Thanks to its dedicated kids mode, it's suitable for all ages, too.
Richard Seagrave · Jun 05, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - We liked Nuclear Blaze's atmospheric mix of platforming and firefighting back in 2023 but it didn't offer a ton of longevity, so having a free PS5 upgrade and a fresh trophy set to conquer was a welcome bonus and a great reason to jump back into the game.
Richie · Jun 01, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - The gameplay is addictive and innovative, while the controls are simple and tight. Perhaps the game needed a few more tunes, but the pixel art is very well done. There’s no voice-acting, but there’s a little bit of an unconventional story to discover if you’re a fan of mysteries.
Cosmin Vasile · May 03, 2023 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Nuclear Blaze is a brisk experience, but one that will give just enough timing and puzzle challenges to keep you engaged through the entire run. Its simplicity is its strength, focusing on the action first and foremost and using those limited toolsets to approach each flame. An impressive approach to difficulty and an appropriate amount of mystery puts this game into a neat package that is approachable and as challenging as you’d prefer. Nuclear Blaze is short, sweet, and definitely worth a look.
Joel A. DeWitte · May 02, 2023 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Overall, Nuclear Blaze is an absolute blast. The 2D platforming is complemented by unique fire-based puzzles that keep you on your toes while unraveling the mystery behind this abandoned facility. There’s something satisfying about clearing a room of flames, not to mention rescuing cute kittens. Despite its short runtime, I highly recommend this to anyone who loves action platformers.
Jemma Casson · May 01, 2023 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - It may not last very long, but Nuclear Blaze is a cool action platformer that does a good job of exploring its core idea of prioritizing fighting fires over fighting enemies. Things like Hold My Beer Mode and all the hidden cats help pad out the replayability a bit, while the strong level design and tight gameplay makes the moment-to-moment action feel worthwhile.
Mitch Vogel · Apr 30, 2023 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Nuclear Blaze is an enjoyable pixel platformer that gets all the basics right but lacks any meaningful depth to keep you engaged. Its vast array of difficulty options can be praised for making it accessible to all, however its incredibly short runtime makes it a very passable experience.
Simon Fitzgerald · Apr 27, 2023 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Nuclear Blaze is the equivalent of a brightly lit candle—it’s at its end far too soon, but it’s impossible not to marvel at its splendor while it’s still there. As little as I’ve actually thought about the “firefighting game” genre, I’m all-in if future games are anything like this.
Kenny McKee · Apr 26, 2023 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Keeping on with the nonstop praise for a game I was feeling quite cold (heh) towards to a first, Nuclear Blaze’s soundtrack is amazing. It’s insanely catchy. The music and sound effects do a great job building up the atmosphere and tension of a massive and quickly spreading fire, as well as the darker tones a shady facility full of dark secrets might offer.
Aaron Price · Apr 26, 2023 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Nuclear Blaze is a brief, yet, almost therapeutic gameplay experience that doesn’t overstay its welcome, but it did have me wishing for more. Still, I’d much rather feel that than the opposing extreme. You could do much worse if you’re looking for a quaint lunch-long adventure with just a few spooks.
