Critic Reviews
- Nioh 2 is an excellent game, filled with lots and varied content, which not only adds to the Souls-like genre while maintaining its personality as a franchise but also welcomes new players with its more friendly approach to its difficulty that doesn’t betray the ideals that made the genre such an eye-opener for the industry for both devs and players alike. While its PC port still isn’t perfect, it’s polished enough to be beatable from beginning to end with no game-breaking issues.
Danny Cruzatty · Sep 20, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - It most certainly was and for another person, particularly someone who likes this style of game, they will be in heaven. That being said, even I can say this is a must play for people that want a big game with some challenging combat and all the bells and whistles that come with the genre, and this PC version runs and looks just as good as one would expect.
Drew Leachman · Apr 14, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Nioh 2: The Complete Edition is an excellent Soulslike that features superb combat mechanics, great level design, a beautiful world, and more, and the upgrades and bonuses that come with the Complete Edition are the cherry on top.
Brendan Lowry · Mar 02, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Nioh 2 – The Complete Edition is a phenomenal game. And while I would personally recommend getting it on PS4 over PC due to personal circumstances, there really isn’t a whole lot else to say about this game that isn’t some form of praise. If you’re a fan of the original Nioh, or soulslike games in general, this is absolutely something worth picking up.
Kenny McKee · Feb 19, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Players that didn’t gel with Nioh likely won’t find this sequel appealing. Anyone that is liked their first trip through Japan and wants some more Souls-like action would be wise to grab Nioh 2. The PC port isn’t perfect, but some promised updates are coming that will likely improve things. At least on PS5, you’re getting a solid upgrade over the PS4 version that will make things hard to put down.
Peter Glagowski · Feb 18, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Nioh 2 inhabits the same space as From Software’s critically-acclaimed Souls franchise, but it is by no means its inferior. Unlike the other “inspired by” series circulating the market, Nioh 2 has pushed past that descriptor. Team Ninja has developed a game that, like From Software’s games, has no equal. It is an experience that simply does not exist elsewhere.
Joshua Garibay · Feb 17, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Ultimately, that excruciating difficulty and the feeling it evokes are baked into Nioh's DNA, though, and its boss fights remain compelling even as they vex and frustrate. Though it sometimes feels like a curse as you play, it is a testament that Nioh 2 successfully grabs and holds your complete attention so close for so long.
Mike Epstein · Feb 16, 2021 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Are myriad of complexities in action games something that gets you excited or do they sound like needless distractions? I personally lean more to the minimalist side, but when a game pulls off its mechanics as well as Nioh 2, I don’t mind diving in once in head-first.
Tony Bae · Feb 12, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Nioh 2 runs and plays beautifully. Ever since Dark Souls set the world alight, FromSoftware have had plenty of imitators come for the crown. Often, even the better ones come with the caveat of not being as good. Nioh 2, though, evolves what was already unique about Nioh into something that Team Ninja can very much call their own. It might be operating in the same genre space, but Nioh 2 has its own flavour, and it’s like nothing else out there.
Oscar Taylor-Kent · Feb 09, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The PC release of Nioh 2 may not be perfect but it’s still well worth visiting. The locales are stunning, the combat is as great as ever and the boss fights will have you on the edge of your seat most of the time. I’ve died much more than I’d like to admit, but I’ve loved every minute of it.
