  • It would have taken the world’s lousiest miracle to make NHL 12 a bad game. After all, the core gameplay is so solid that their NHL 2K competition said “no mas” and got out of the business. Our only complaint is that EA should have let the Legends simmer for a season or two until a compelling, “holy crap this is awesome” way to integrate the greatest players in history could have been dreamed up

  • NHL 12 isn’t a giant leap forward for EA’s vaunted hockey series, but it maintains the franchise’s lofty pedigree despite a few missteps. It offers improvements that are subtle as opposed to eye-catching, but they’re significant nonetheless. Once again, hockey fans, you’ve got a lot to be thankful for

  • All in all, I really like NHL 12. The more time I spent with it, the more the new changes to the formula grew on me. The AI routines are less predictable and scripted, meaning every game feels like anything can happen. There are still some areas that need refinement, but if you own NHL 11, I would still recommend you pick up NHL 12

  • It has its quirks, and certain areas certainly feel ignored compared with previous pushes forward in the series, but by and large, NHL 12 is a game that gets the details right in a way most sports games barely even aspire to. The on-ice action is tight, fast-paced, natural-feeling, and just a ton of fun, whether you're playing offline or on. If you need full-on revolution in your sports titles, NHL 12 might be a year to skip. If you just want a great-looking, and even better playing hockey game for the upcoming NHL season, NHL 12 has you covered

  • NHL 12 doesn't push the envelope, but there are few gripes with what EA Sports has put on the ice. This is a safe sequel that doesn't advance the franchise in any significant ways, but the tweaks and new features buff up a game that was already shining like a freshly flooded sheet of ice

NHL 12 is a huge game completely jam-packed with modes and gameplay features,....NHL 12 has its problems, to be certain, but most of what it does it does so well that the series persists as a fan-favorite nearly 20 years after its introduction

  • NHL 12 is a welcome addition to the NHL family. EA has seemingly done the impossible by revamping the game in a way that not only increases the realism, but also improves the gameplay. NHL 12 also includes a few extras that are guaranteed to make it a fan favorite (like Legends, goalie fighting, and the Winter Classic).

  • A terrific hockey game with improved A.I. and physics, NHL 12 reminds us why the ice is so much fun. While some new additions fall a bit flat, it's another extremely solid entry in an enjoyable franchise

  • The new full contact physics engine, improved AI, and Dynamic Goalies will give players a more complete NHL experience, and one that can be enjoyed finally with the computer, though the computer AI is still not where it could be

  • The sheer amount of optimization and customization is astounding. It should take gamers a little while to figure out all the games intricacies as EA has melded a great playing game, a great looking game, and an immensely deep gaming experience all into one. The realism is off the chart here, and I’ve got to applaud the effort.
