  • I may not be a fan of EAUHL, but I don’t mind that it exists, since it’ll definitely generate valuable data and feedback that will help the developers create a real online dynasty mode. (Besides, the gameplay is the best it’s ever been.) Yet again, the peerless NHL team has produced a modern classic that will surely sit at the pinnacle of the year’s sports releases. This is probably the best hockey game ever -- until NHL 12 comes out, that is

  • NHL 11 continues to dominate the sports landscape. It’s a no-brainer must-have for any modern sports gamer, whether you can successfully discuss the nuances of the Left Wing Lock or can barely name a couple of players on your favorite team. There’s enough here for everyone to have a blast.

  • It's a solid presentation all around, but some cracks are starting to show. There still aren't enough players faces, and the ones that are here could use some work. Slowdown is persistent in be a pro, there aren't enough songs in the soundtrack, and the play-by-play gets things wrong a little too often. More than in years past, NHL 11's enhancements will be noticed by a select clientele. It's a product of fan feedback and number crunching, but for that core group of fans, most of the cheese has been cut, making for a rewarding game that's greater than the sum of its updates.

  • One of the best things about NHL 11 is how the realism constantly takes you by surprise no matter how long you play. Many arcade sports games reveal more flaws with every hour that you play. Here, the good stuff just keeps coming. Just when the game starts to feel a little predictable, something happens that you've never seen before, like a crazy deflection leading to a goal or an AI player showing off highlight-reel moves. Say hello to the new standard by which hockey games are measured.

  • The extra charge leaves a bitter taste in our mouth. Still, we cannot deny that NHL 11 is an improvement over what came before it, and truly hardcore hockey fans will enjoy the hours they spend fine-tuning their teams in the new online mode. There are a few improvements yet to be made, and we hope the next installment will take advantage of Move and Kinect to provide even more realism. But those in the market for a new hockey game should be happy with NHL 11.

  • Like a star player at the apex of his career, NHL 11 still shines on the ice. New innovations like the real-time physics engine and UHL show EA Canada still has some room to grow, but as age creeps up on the stalwart franchise and its prior innovations feel commonplace, some of its weaknesses are starting to appear more evident.

NHL 11 is a great hockey game any way you slice it. If you’re looking for a great online experience, you can find it here. ...Heck, if you just want to jump into the playoffs and make a run at the cup, you can do that, too. Despite the fact that a lot of the modes have been ported over from last year and Ultimate Team has been seen before in other EA Sports games, NHL 11 still delivers a slew of gameplay improvements and a truckload of content that should please the many hockey fans out there.

  • Well, it’s been a year now and I can safely say that NHL 11 does in fact deliver the goods. It’s a much deeper, prettier, louder, harder and more enjoyable game than its predecessor and is without a doubt the best hockey video game currently available across all systems. EA Sports has crafted a game that everybody (not just puck obsessed Canadians) can enjoy, so you should definitely tape that stick and lace up those skates.

  • This is what a good sports game does; it provides a little something for everyone. If you want to play online, you can do that, if you want a fantasy league feeling, you can do that. Or, if you simply want to play some friends locally, you can jump into a quick game at the drop of a hat. Indeed, every year it seems EA makes an NHL game that will be hard to top, and this year’s stellar effort is no different.
