The 'new' Mario 2D platforming adventure. However, there isn't that much 'new' to this game contradicting its title.

Pros:

* The game follows the classic Mario 2D platforming formula, with all the stuff from the Wii U version as well, sticking true to the 'Deluxe' title, at least. While this may seem mundane in theory, practically though, the game appeals to a large audience. There's a reason that Mario games sell remarkably.
* You have a choice of 5 characters: Mario, Luigi, Toad, Toadette and Nabbit. However, if you choose to play as Toadette and acquire the crown power-up, you transform into Peachette. This completely changes the character's movements and playstyles.
* The difficulty great, especially for newer players who have the option to choose from 2 characters if they want to play in 'Easy' mode.
* The game contains 'New Super Luigi U' as well.
* The game is detailed and well designed, a great example being the slight, intricate differences between the characters and their playstyles.
* The amount of content in the game is huge, one of the perks of being a Mario game.

Cons:

* The game is incredibly repetitive. This is a hinderance to veterans mostly, since this issue affects the enjoyment levels.
* The game can be taxing to beginners. Even though there are characters which ease the difficulty, they do their job too well, which can make beginners feel disparaged for choosing that option.
* The game doesn't have anything extraordinary, nothing much to **intrigue** the player after the initial attraction.

It's a Mario game at the end of it all though, so however you look at it, the game will sell massively. Nevertheless, this banal formula of 2D platformers is slowly dying out, so I strongly recommend and hope that the next Mario 2D platformer will include innovative and refreshing features to keep players hooked.

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe

why would someone buy for full price and there's mario maker 2 and odyssey

It is a very fun game, with no lag. However, this game is not hard to beat and not the best when compared to another game (SMM2). I still enjoy this game sometimes since of the challenges and extra features this game applies. That is why I don't totally trash this game. I can have good moments with this game and I play it from time to time.
