  • The remake of one of the more known older Need for Speed games did turn out nearly perfect. While the driving might feel a bit ‘over the top’ if you’re expecting something realistic, it does handle nicely and responds immediately. The elaborate career mode where you can combine both paths, one being the street racer, the other being the police officer, makes for many hours of gameplay. The great licensed soundtrack will take you back a few decades and a large car roster means that there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit is pure over-the-top driving entertainment. The cars and environments are gorgeous, the crashes are spectacular, and the new Autolog feature breathes new life into the time-honored tradition of video game competition among friends. The single-player races can become somewhat repetitive and there are some presentation issues, but overall, Hot Pursuit is a blast. If you're looking for a high-octane racer that grabs on tight but doesn't take itself too seriously, give this one a shot.

  • What Criterion Games has done with Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit is develop the best entry in the series in the last 5 years of release. Once you start playing this game, there is no way you can play just one race. The ‘one more race’ addiction factor is always present and refuses to let go of its firm grasp. If you’ve been waiting for a fun, addictive, and enjoyable arcade racer with just enough sim in it, stunning graphics, and an online mode that will keep you coming back for more, Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit is your answer.

  • The core gameplay of Hot Pursuit is functional and entertaining, though the game fails to make its case until it pits cops and racers against each other in high-speed hunts, giving players on both sides the tools they need to see justice done - or evade its grasp. Hot Pursuit shines visually with both the cars and the varied environments found in the 100-square-mile Seacrest County.

  • Though I occasionally felt like I was fighting the front-end UI to get it to tell me which events I should be trying next, the gameplay offers just enough variety to work well in short bursts and the online modes are terrific fun that could keep you coming back for a while as you strive to gain levels and get a better, longer spike strip.

  • Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit is a triumph at marrying the chaotic nature of Criterion's Burnout franchise with Need For Speed's roots. The game is as subtle as it is bombastic, with the core drift-intensive racing providing a steady backdrop for the game's more speculative moments.

  • Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit is one of the most thrilling racing games around. It doesn't matter which side of the law you prefer to play on; the unpredictable nature of these events and the sheer speed at which they're played make this a tough game to put down. If you're in the market for a ride with superb handling, great looks, an impressive top speed, and more than enough room for all of your friends, this is the one you want.

  • Though the sim-style of racing has gained exponentially in popularity, I would challenge even the most hardened simulation elitist to give this title a try and not crack a smile. Sure, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit has plenty of over-the-top action and some serious high-speed hi-jinks that wouldn't fly in any other series, but the game is plenty of fun, and certainly worth the time of any fan of the automotive genre. Plus, any game that makes the sound of cop sirens feel exhilarating instead of dreadful is bound to be a good time!

  • Hot Pursuit cares significantly less about impressing gearheads and is instead far more concerned with being awesome right when the light hits green. This is arcade racing at its best, a true revolution of the highest octane. While many games in the genre have tried to bridge the gap between hardcore thrills and casual accessibility, no one has done it quite as splendidly as in Hot Pursuit. They’ve even managed to tackle the difficult task of enhancing the experience online.

  • Despite feeling like a fusion of Need for Speed and Burnout, Hot Pursuit is still the most exciting title the franchise has seen in a long time. The core driving is never anything but exhilarating, visually it's almost flawless and the Autolog features are genre leading. There's still something missing, though. While the high-speed pursuits are up there with the best gaming experiences of the year, the game needs more than that: car tuning, a resemblance of a story - complete with cheesy acting - and a reason to explore the open world. Ultimately, Hot Pursuit could have done with a bit more Need for Speed and Burnout.
