  • No hoops junkie should miss NBA 2K11. It’s not just another yearly update with some obligatory back-of-the-box modifications; it’s a loving study of the greatest player of his generation and his biggest rivals, played out with beautiful sights and sounds that remind us just how great the Air Jordan era was.

  • There's an awful lot of depth to the action, but it's also very easy to get into as long as you find the basic gameplay enjoyable. It helps that 2K's latest is extremely well put together, and has the superb Jordan game modes to work through. Let's face it: it's unlikely you're going to pick this up instead of FIFA 11, but as an alternative to play when football isn't on your brain, this does the job very well indeed.

  • The level of detail, incredible graphical refinement, wealth of gameplay options and the inclusion of Michael Jordan himself mark it out as an exceptional basketball game. That said, the PlayStation Move controls aren’t great, and if you’re considering buying this one just for Move you might be disappointed by the controller’s implementation. Move support aside, this is one fantastic game and an all-but essential purchase for fans of the sport.

  • NBA 2K11 is the most accurate basketball simulation that I've ever played. All of the players and teams, from 1986 to the present day, look and feel like real basketball. It's also as difficult as playing real basketball, with a steep curve against those who have never played an NBA 2K game. For the less-learned sports fans, I could have done with better designed tutorials or practice modes, but I guess that's asking too much.

  • If the goal of NBA 2K11 is to craft the most realistic basketball game ever, then it succeeded: this is the most realistic basketball game ever. However, the game definitely takes a hit to its fun factor for what I imagine will be a great deal of its audience. This is a game that will make you bad at basketball games even if you’re good at basketball games, and that’s a frightening prospect, and one that I think may initially turn off a lot of players.

  • The NBA 2K series has clearly stepped up its game for this installment, perhaps as a result of hearing the squeaky sneakers of competitor Electronic Arts, who has recently made great strides. Though EA's basketball series has been relegated to the bench for the remainder of 2010, most hoops fans won't care: NBA 2K11 is easily the most impressive version of the series since 2K7, offering just the right amount of improvements and additions to make it king of the court.

  • The presentation is loud, full of energy, extremely realistic, and hardly ever falters. Michael Jordan’s inclusion as well as his iconic Air Jordans as rewards is a very nice touch. PlayStation Move functionality is a decent change of the control scheme, though it is not exactly advantageous to play with that setup. Overall, you will definitely find yourself immersed in the game, and friends and family members will likely enjoy simply watching the game, especially when there are no actual NBA games on regular television.

NBA 2K11 is meant as a love letter to basketball fans. If you're serious about basketball, this will fill a long-standing void in your hoops-loving heart. This is the NBA. But come into this knowing that the performance issues are a real concern and that it will take some effort to enjoy the PC version long-term. Hopefully this is something that can get patched, but for now, it's frustrating to see such a great game marred in such a way.

  • NBA 2K11 is a huge improvement over last year's edition. Just about every facet has been improved or overhauled, which makes this a richly rewarding experience with enough depth to make even diehard NBA fans feel like rookies. It's easy to lose dozens of hours improving your game in practice, working your way through the ranks in My Player mode, or creating a dynasty in franchise play. It's a shame there are still some hiccups that prevent this from truly soaring, and the online inconsistencies are downright crushing when you want to show off your skills to the world.

  • NBA 2K11 has definitely set the bar high for future iterations, both of basketball games and sports games in general. If this trend continues, in a few years time, we may actually have to go outside to a basketball court to get more realistic. NBA 2K11 is the best basketball game ever made, and if you are a fan of the sport, and especially if you were raised in the Air Jordan Era, you won’t find a better b-ball game anywhere.
