  Someone seems to have forgotten to lash down the skirmish generator, scenario editor, and mid-mission save function, too. They all appear to have been washed overboard. Omissions like these, together with some slowdown during busy scraps, and visual tomfoolery in the 3D mode (ships will sometimes teleport to new formation positions, fixedwing planes rise like helicopters) don't prevent Naval War: Arctic Circle delivering tense, fresh, challenging engagements, but they might explain why the launch price is unexpectedly low in the water.

  Naval War falls flat — and not just because of the drab color palette (if you’ve ever attended a U.S. Navy event aboard a ship, you’d notice that it’s all blues and grays, anyway). As much as I enjoy some of the oddball strategy games available, I can’t bring myself to recommend this to even the most ardent grognards.

  Adding in a save feature could help immensely in making the game more playable in the short term, and releasing the mission editor promised by the devs could give the game a shot at long-term support from the wargame community. Even though there are some sore points at the moment, the game presents an in-depth tactical challenge for weekend warriors. Just know before pulling the trigger on a purchase that you're dealing with more of an ongoing project than a fully realized game.

  Sim fans might find it too light, or too restrictive, and other gamers and more mainstream PC gamers could probably find better games to break into the niche. An ok start perhaps for Turbo Tape, but either they need to quickly move on to another, more filled-out game, or they really need to enhance Arctic Circle with DLC because this is very much a quick-shot title. Make of this review what you will, but perhaps best avoid unless you’re curious.

  Naval War: Arctic Circle bietet taktische Kämpfe in einem aktuellen Nordmeer-Szenario, bei dem der Kalte Krieg eine heiße Neuauflage erfährt. Hobby-Admiräle kommen bei dem kleinen, aber feinen Strategiespiel aus Norwegen auf ihre Kosten, da es authentische See- und Luftschlachten im großen Stil bietet. Auf Seiten der NATO oder Russen führt man modernes Gerät ins Gefecht, das es richtig einzusetzen gilt.

  Con Naval War: Arctic Circle, Paradox compie così un mezzo passo falso, proponendo un gioco mediamente divertente, mediamente sviluppato e in generale mediamente divertente, per il quale è davvero difficile riuscire a esprimere una soddisfazione di fondo. Certo, qualora lo trovaste all'interno di qualche offerta potreste anche pensare di recuperarlo, anche in virtù di una mancanza quasi totale di titoli simili sul mercato e della già citata mediocrità che comunque non sconfina mai nel pessimo.

  Het aantal verbeteringen dat ontwikkelaar Turbo Tape Games heeft doorgevoerd, is gewoon te klein om van Naval War: Arctic Circle een geslaagde strategische simulatiegame te maken. Als je het geduld hebt om alle regels omtrent radar en sonar te leren, kun je erg veel lol halen uit het spel, dat immers een ton opties bevat. Het overgrote deel van de spelers zal dit geduld niet hebben en zal afknappen op de nutteloze en ondermaatse 3D-graphics.
