- The bottom line is that NASCAR 09 is a good racer but doesn't provide the same level of excitement as the real thing. Regardless, it's at least a small improvement over last year's game in nearly every way. If you're willing to spend the time adjusting some of the settings, you'll find NASCAR 09 to be a fun and challenging game.
Gamespot Staff · Jul 03, 2008 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - This is NASCAR, after all, and until Tony Stewart and company start strapping laser sharks to their hoods or machine guns to their quarterpanels, there’s only so much that can be done. With that said, Tiburon didn’t do any skimping this season; each aspect of the game is tight as a drum. NASCAR 09 easily trumps its predecessors as the best of this generation.
Rich Grisham · Jun 20, 2008 Reviewed on X360Read full review - NASCAR 09 isn't going to set tills on fire in the UK, but it's a solid racing game that offers something a little different to the likes of GT, Forza, PGR and GRID. It's not the most exciting of games to look at, but in the middle of the hustle and bustle of a race you need to be on your game if you're going to succeed.
Tom Orry · Jun 18, 2008 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - After last year's false start, EA has made great strides in getting their NASCAR games pointed in the right direction. Yes, there are still some big licensing issues, and the AI still makes the same odd, boneheaded moves, but overall, NASCAR 09 is extremely playable, and should satisfy console gear heads looking to climb the ranks and make the chase.
Game Trailers · Jun 17, 2008 Reviewed on PS3, X360 - Most hardcore NASCAR fans will just be happy that there?s a new game version of their favorite sport, and we can report that it functions reasonably well as such. But to the general gaming public, even those of us who really love racing games, there?s nothing special about this one.
Ryan Geddes · Jun 13, 2008 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Overall, NASCAR 09 is a fairly safe bet for anyone who likes the world of NASCAR. It has plenty of star power and lots of different ways to play. However, it doesn't really have much in the way of innovative automotive gameplay, which really hinders it from being a must-own title. With games like GRID shaking up the automotive genre and Gran Turismo 5 just on the horizon, the NASCAR series definitely needs to get in gear.
Amanda L. Kondolojy · Jun 10, 2008 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - There are moments as you roar around the tracks when NASCAR 09 is vastly more entertaining than you'd expect. Sadly these brief thrills are almost always muted by the typically sensible EA Sports corporate sheen, which ultimately reduces the game to another technically minded racer of limited scope rather than the over-the-top metal-shredding redneck rumble of the real thing.
Dan Whitehead · Aug 14, 2008 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Overall, NASCAR 09 feels as though EA Sports is on the right track and going the left direction -- repeatedly. With improved handling, in-depth tuning, and enough options to keep you playing for a month or so, this may be best suited for a rental. It will appeal to both the hardcore fan and somewhat to the casual racer, but there are better racing options out there.
