- Mutant Mudds Super Challenge is a very competent 2D platformer, but it fails to differentiate itself from the many other retro-style side-scrollers just like it. Unfortunately the game doesn't deliver anything fresh or original in any aspect, be it gameplay, art style, music, story, etc.
crispyn64 · Aug 26, 2016 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - Mutant Mudds Super Challenge is a tough recommendation for those new to the series or the more casual of platforming fans. But for the most hardcore of hardcore retro inspired fans longing for a true challenge, you may have a new favorite on your hands. It doesn’t bring much new to the table but what’s here is so well crafted it’s hard not to appreciate it. Even if you need to buy a new controller afterwards.
Rory Wood · Aug 21, 2016 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - At its best, Super Challenge is a commendable and well-sought (if not fully diverse) expansion to Mutant Mudds’ already satisfying take on the less-is-more approach to game design. While the content (both visuals and all-round design) may wind up being mechanically more of the same, it’s the accessibility in its gameplay and enticement to conquer each set of life-ending hazards in each of the four-to-five minute levels that will leave many satisfied.
Jordan Helm · Aug 07, 2016 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - We give Mutant Mudds Super Challenge a very strong recommendation – it's an incredibly well designed and challenging game that stands as one of the best things to come out of Renegade Kid – but it is certainly not for everybody. This is for super players only.
Mitch Vogel · Mar 18, 2016 Reviewed on Wii U, 3DSRead full review - If you're interested in a modern classic that's both a loving retro homage and a cleverly design platformer, go ahead and give Mutant Mudds Deluxe a go first to see if it's your thing. If so, picking up Super Challenge wouldn't be a bad idea, because while it doesn't wildly alter the formula, it complements the series in an honorable way.
Chris Carter · Mar 18, 2016 Reviewed on Wii U, 3DSRead full review - I enjoyed most of Super Challenge, but the game’s last few levels and most of the boss fights left me more frustrated than anything else. This is an excellent pick-up for hardcore Mudd fans, but if you’re new to the series, don’t start with this game—go with its predecessor. Even for Mudd diehards, I suspect your mileage may vary.
Zachary Miller · Mar 17, 2016 Reviewed on Wii U, 3DSRead full review - It certainly isn't for everyone, being overall very overwhelming, but with enough patience and mastery, Mutant Mudds Super Challenge quickly becomes an addictive pick-up-and-play experience. With enough content and replay value to last a solid dozen hours, Max's latest adventure deserves a spot in any 3DS library.
Renan Fontes · Mar 17, 2016 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Anyone seeking out a super tough platforming experience, this should make you feel right at home. For the more casual player, however, the need to replay levels over and over to learn their specialised mechanics might end up feeling a little oppressive.
Brandon Howard · Mar 17, 2016 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - In the end, Super Challenge is a brilliant title that, despite its lack of new additions and frustrating bosses, continues the series’ reputation as a shining example of pitch-perfect platforming mechanics and design. If you feel like dying and loving every minute of it, Mutant Mudds Super Challenge is for you.
