- Drill Land’s few but varied problems, most of them, stem from the fact that it’s a 2002 game in 2021. It gets repetitive and dull within an hour of playtime, which is a caveat to its design and age. Pick it up, play, set it down and wait for the itch to come back. In the long term, one may call it a game that has outlived interest… or not. Being nearly two decades old, it has survived the attention span of one generation, but it may be ready for the next.
Mario Brash · Nov 27, 2021 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Mr. DRILLER DrillLand is an absolute blast to play with friends, but also as a single-player experience. We loved the different themed ‘rides’ in the theme park, but we also enjoyed ourselves when playing the multiplayer mode competitively. Sadly, it seems that the servers are somewhat deserted, but local co-op is probably still a lot more fun than just playing with strangers online.
Ibuki · Nov 24, 2021 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Mr. Driller: DrillLand is an excellent game for puzzle fans of all types. Longtime series fans will find that this is the pinnacle of the series, with almost endless replayability due to formula variations and online leaderboards. New fans will find this to be the perfect entry point given the variety and available difficulty settings. Unless you absolutely dislike puzzle titles, DrillLand is worth a spin.
Cody Medellin · Sep 14, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - There's plenty to like in Mr. Driller DrillLand. It looks and sounds great and the same core gameplay that people loved more than twenty years ago holds up beautifully. However, it ends up being let down by a structure that doesn't make a lot of sense and glitches which don't belong in a game released in 2020. If you have a ton of nostalgia for Mr. Driller or just need a well-designed puzzle game, though, there is still fun to be had.
Andrew Thornton · Jul 13, 2020 Reviewed on PC - Mr. DRILLER DrillLand is a brilliantly fun puzzler that takes its core mechanic and twists it in some really interesting – and more importantly fun – ways. I’ve played a lot of puzzle games on Nintendo Switch and while Mr. DRILLER DrillLand plays very different from any of them, it still has that same compelling force that brings me back for one or two more runs.
Ryan Janes · Jul 02, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Mr. Driller is one of those elite few puzzle games that, like Tetris, remain immensely playable no matter what year it is. The GameCube edition was one of the finest examples of this and, a full 18 years later, it hasn't aged a single day. Given that you can easily enjoy it in 10-minute bursts or epic three-hour sessions, there are fewer games better suited to the Switch. A must-have for puzzle fans.
Chris Scullion · Jul 01, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Mr. Driller Drill Land is the kind of game you can play for 10 minutes on a lunch break or for an entire afternoon. It's the sort of game where you'll be in a groove… only to screw up a section catastrophically and ruin a run. But you'll only be bitter about it for a minute before eagerly diving back in to try again. If you've never played Mr. Driller--or if it's been a while since you and Susumu went excavating together--Mr. Driller Drill Land is one relic that deserves a spot in your gaming museum.
Heidi Kemps · Jul 01, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Mr. Driller DrillLand is the most popular game in its series for a reason. Having a remake with super cheerful graphics, and letting you take its bite-sized gameplay on-the-go, makes for a great little puzzle package. There’s enough variety in each mode that each comes with their own strategies, enough of a challenge to sink countless hours into, and a blast of cute vibes for good measure.
Gabs Tanner · Jul 01, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Pricing discrepancies aside though, Mr. DRILLER DrillLand is easy to recommend. It’s bright, bold and colourful, and most importantly, a lot of fun to play. It’s simple to get the hang of, but each separate game mode requires serious practice to truly master. If you enjoy the simple pleasures of a classic arcade-style game, you can’t go far wrong here.
Kim Snaith · Jun 29, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Finally making its way out of Japan for the first time, Mr. Driller DrillLand is still the best entry in this niche puzzle franchise and fits right at home on the Nintendo Switch.
