  • Evocative and powerful, Mouthwashing's console debut leaves a lasting, heavy impression. The Finger Guns review:

  • Psychological, Captain. Mouthwashing was an instant indie darling when it launched on PC in 2024. It’s the kind of game that inspires more discussion and analysis than its relatively short runtime, so it feels long overdue to finally be able to play it on console.

  • At multiple points in the game, text flashes on the screen saying, "I hope this hurts," an ambiguous message from one character to another. We never learn who says it to who, but it's a particularly dark line: an explicit desire for suffering in a story where everyone is suffering in their own ways already. Quotes like these along with Mouthwashing's final moments left me rattled and introspective, reckoning with the lengths people can be pushed to when pressured by crisis, ego, or capitalism. As intended, it left me feeling disturbed. In other words, it hurts, Wrong Organ. Your wish came true.

  • Mouthwashing is grimy, uncomfortable, and incredibly compelling, painting an unsettling picture of who we can be in our worst moments – and it doesn’t let us get away with it.

  • Mouthwashing captivates with its eerie atmosphere, gripping narrative, and tense psychological horror. While some mechanics falter, it’s a memorable, haunting indie gem of 2024.

  • It’s hard to talk about Mouthwashing without giving away some of its more disturbing revelations and scenes. Yet those are the ones that stayed with me the most. The refrain in the game—that a person’s worst moments don’t define them or make them a monster—is something to keep in mind as the truth of what happened, along with the frayed mental states of the Tulpar crew, unravel over the course of the story.

  • Mouthwashing delivers an unsettling, cinematic spacewreck horror experience with a unique narrative exploring leadership and mental exhaustion. While the puzzles offer little challenge, the gripping storyline and atmospheric PS1-inspired visuals create an unforgettable psychological horror. Ideal for fans of walking simulators with a twist, this game explores disturbing themes that you won't easily forget.
